How do you pay for your psoriasis prescriptions ?

We have members from around the world and thought it would be interesting to see how others pay for their psoriasis prescriptions. Even if you live in the same country as another do you all pay the same.

Here in France everyone has a card which pays around 60% of your prescription, if you register with a family doctor you get 70% (I think those figures are accurate, but it can be difficult to understand). With regard to the balance you have three options.

#1 You can pay the balance yourself.

#2 You can have insurance to pay the balance.

#3 You get 100% if you are on a low income.

But there is also a 4th option and that is to register for a Affection de Longue Durée (ALD) an illness that is on the list of "Long term or major illness" The good news with this is that psoriatic arthritis is on the list and in some cases it will be granted for psoriasis too.  All you have to do is get your family doctor to sign a form every 5 years stating that you still have an ALD and get it approved by the health system.

I doubt newly diagnosed would get the full 100% straight away, but it is worth asking especially once you are referred to a dermatologist.

How do you pay for your psoriasis prescriptions ?

Here in Australia, we have the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) which lists all of the medicines available to be dispensed to patients at a Government-subsidised price. The Schedule is part of the wider Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme managed by the Department of Health and administered by the Department of Human Services. This schedule is now online and updated on a monthly basis. The PBS has been in existence since 1948 and is governed by the National Health Act 1953.

When you receive your prescription you take it to your local pharmacy and once filled they will charge you the PBS subsidised price, $40.30 for general patients or $6.50 for a concession card holder. These costs are not covered by your health insurance or the government public health care fund Medicare and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

Once you have paid a certain amount and reach the "PBS safety net" which is $1550.70 for general patients $390 for concession card holders in a calendar year, you are then eligible for a further discount which brings the cost of each prescription down to $6.50 for general patients and free for concession card holders

Below is a screenshot of where Cosentyx is on the schedule.

Thank you Craig, it's interesting the different ways other countries work.

I won't put the British as I've lost touch and for all I know it could be different for each person. Maybe a couple of Brits will wake up and chip in.

Then there is the Dutch and USA, etc. Whistle

Here in England the charges are £9.00 an item on a prescription

Or you can get a three month prepayment certificate for £29.10 or for 12 Months if you need regular items it costs £104

There are exemption under 16 (or over18 if in full time education )and over 60 are free
There are other exemptions so if in doubt go to the government website where there is a list

Also in England, if you have injections delivered you don’t pay for the prescription.

I found a chemical supply company on Alibaba, got a quote for a quantity of dimethyl fumarate freighted to my home, then made a payment into the company's account at my bank. I got my chemicals delivered within a few weeks.

Was that helpful, Fred?

No Bill it wasn't. The question was about "Prescription Payments" I doubt many would follow your option.  Tongue
