Manky toe nails

Been using Stelera for a while now and Im prettig impressed with the results. However, my toenails are manky. Disgusting as it sounds, I end up picking at them and pulling bits of nail out. This results in my toes often being painful where its uncomfortable to wear shoes or even walk sometimes.
I was condidering having my toenails removed. Has anyone else done this. Will my toenails ever recover.
Has anyone any tips or suggestions.

Please please please, DO NOT pick your nails Beverley, you could get them infected and then you will have all sorts of problems then and won’t want that, will you ?

My nails are badly pitted on my toes and my hands and I use coconut oil on them.

For your toe nails, see your dermatologist and see what they can do for you ?

Another idea is go to see the Podiatrist and see what they can do for you Beverley.

I agree with Grizzly .....( now that's a first) try not to pick them ...as he says the last thing you want is an infection.

Nails are difficult to treat ...how long have you been on Stelara ? Were they bad before you started Stelara ?

My fingernails are pitted and striated and my thumb nails grow with a crack through the middle that never grows out and my two big toenails are very thick and I have to use industrial cutters to clip them ...but I haven't ever picked mine and made them painful ( mainly because I struggle to reach my feet   )
Coconut oil sounds worth a try though ...but I hope someone comes up with a better idea for you

Probably had the manky toe nails for as long as I have been on Stelera. Im almost psoriasis free but my nails are terrible. On my fingers mt thumb nail also splits and my nails break very easily. Think I started getting manky toes around the same time Inswitched from Humira to Stelera. I know I shouldnt pick at my toes, but its easier said than done. Will give the coconut oil a go though.

Hopefully someone will have a better idea. But if Stelara is doing a good job it would be a shame to switch....although another biological that targets different cells like Cosentyx does might be a way forward

Stelera is the best that has worked so far so I an reluctant to change it. The reaons I pick at my toes are mainly psychological. Ive overcome a lot but making myself feel,pain is something I havent overcome. The only conselation is that this is now the only thing I do to feel pain. It sort of helps to relieve something inside, if that makes sense.

Mine used to come away from the bed and were very painful before going on to Stelara. It took around a couple of years before they was back to almost normal.

Once a month I soak my feet in warm water with good old French sea salt for around 1 hour, then I clip the nails straight across and rub in some coconut oil.

Do not pick at them and don't be too tempted to clip them in odd shapes. Clipping the corners to keep sharp edges is fine but by keeping them straight the bad bits will eventually grow out and catch up. It takes time, but mine apart from a few little pits and one with a deep line are fine and no longer lift away.

If you haven't already got it you could be heading for psoriatic arthritis, so get your dermatologist to have a look as you may do better on Cosentyx if you do have onset psoriatic arthritis.

Toe nails take almost a year to grow out, how long are you on Stelara? There's a good chance that it will grow out, it just takes a long time.

For now, maybe there's a way to cover the nails so you can not pick them? Maybe with acrylic nails or something like that?

Been on Stelera for around 18 months or so. If I had acylic nails I would pull them off as soon as I felt a loose bit. Its a habit I cant seem to break. Im busy knitting myself a jumper to keep my hands busy and distract myself. One advantage since using Stelera is that I have less pain in my fingers and they arent so stiff anymore. I had to stop knitting due to painful hands.
Maybe I Will just have to accept my manky toes.
