There has been a recent study looking at the effects of E-Cigarettes and the results are suggesting they could make psoriasis worse.

Quote:
Rationale:
E-cigarettes have become increasingly popular and little is known about their potential adverse health effects.

Objective:
To determine the effects of e-cigarette use on the airways.

Methods:
Induced sputum samples from cigarette smokers, e-cigarette users, and non-smokers, were analyzed by quantitative proteomics, and the total and individual concentrations of mucins MUC5AC  and  MUC5B  were  determined  by  light  scattering/refractometry  and  labeled  mass  spectrometry,  respectively. Neutrophil  extracellular  trap  (NET)  formation  rates  were  also  determined forthe same groups.

Measurements and Main Results:
E-cigarette users exhibited significant increases in aldehyde-detoxification and oxidative stress related proteins associated withcigarette smoke comparing to non-smokers. The levels of innate defense proteins associated with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), such as elastase and matrix metalloproteinase- 9, were significantly elevated in e-cigarette users as well. E-cigarette users’ sputum also uniquely exhibited significant increases in neutrophil granulocyte - and NET- related proteins, such as myeloperoxidase, azurocidin, and protein-arginine deiminase 4, despite no significant elevation in neutrophil cell counts. Peripheral neutrophils from e-cigarette users showed increased sensitivity to PMA - induced NETosis. Finally, a compositional change in the gel-forming building blocks of airway mucus, i.e., an elevated concentration of mucin MUC5AC, was observed in both cigarette smokers and e-cigarette users.

Conclusions:
Together, our results indicate that e-cigarette use alters the profile of innate defense proteins in airway secretions, inducing both similar and unique changes relative to cigarette smoking. These data challenge the concept that e-cigarettes are a healthier alternative to cigarettes.

The interesting part is not in the abstract but the full study goes on to say:

The enhanced NET formation in peripheral blood neutrophils from e-cigarette users also suggests the potential for systemic harm beyond the lung. Given that increased NET formation is closely associated with epithelial and endothelial cell death and subsequent pathogenesis, aberrant NET formation in peripheral blood neutrophils from e-cigarette users should be examined in the context  of  the  pathogenesis  of  systemic  diseases, such  as  systemic  lupus  erythematosus, vasculitis, and psoriasis.

That's a very interesting article, I have often wondered about the effect inhaling the chemicals from E cigarettes would have on the body, not that I use them but do observe a lot of people using them, and I'm sure they think they are healthier than cigarettes ....I'm not sure if they are addictive as smoking is ( I was a nicotine addict, smoker as a young man )

But I would not have linked it to psoriasis, and that surely is worth further investigation Thumb

I read that they think a potential problem, with e cigs and vapes which don't even contain nicotine, is that the heating coil can contain heavy metals depending how it's made and when it heats it imparts some heavy metals into the stuff you breathe in.

If anything is going to make you give up smoking it has to be E-Cigarettes. People using them look such Berk's they really should look in the mirror and think "Do I look a Prat" Answer "Yes you do"

If you want to give up smoking then you should go Cold Turkey. It's an awful process, but works a hell of a lot better than any other ways of quieting. By using E-Cigarettes you are only prolonging the the time it will take to rid yourself of the addiction, and at the same time you are looking a fool.

Give up or carry on.

Well Fred, I used them for years (never smoked) with nicotine and have a mixed opinion. Sometimes very relaxing and enjoyable as long as I didn't od. Wasn't using it for appearances, just totally fed up with the scaremongers and regulators (same people regulate psoriasis medication in Australia). There is an $8000 fine for possession of nicotine containing liquid (possession of cigarettes is legal), so I gave some away and let the rest run out. No withdrawal symptoms, and I never noticed any effect on my psoriasis. Angry

Fascinating.
I enjoy the odd tipple and know this can do all sorts of damage to the individual, but I have never understood why anyone would smoke, let alone inhale something that is completely unregulated with god knows what in it. More research needs to be done on E-Cigs, I guessing in years to come those on them long term will end up with some ill from their use. I think this may just be the tiny tip of the iceberg.

"I have never understood why anyone would smoke" : peer pressure when you're a teenager, then addiction.
"let alone inhale something that is completely unregulated with god knows what in it" : smokers try to find any way to curb their addictions.

I am here to say that I have been a smoker for about 40 years, I failed miserably to give it up. I gave it up when I started vaping about 5 years  ago. But for the last 2/3 years I started having scalp psoriasis and gradually things have gotten worse. I now have psoriasis on my scalp, behind the ears, back, bum crack, testicles, some on the leg. I seem to be dehydrated all the time so I try to drink more water than usual but this doen't help much at all.

I know that all of this is caused by the substances I am inhaling but I still vape. So I can honestly say that I am addicted to vaping but I don't really enjoy it much. Smoking gives me more pleasure but it stinks.

The main problem for me and I believe the same for all smokers/vapors is the constant feeling that you're missing something. I do understand that non smokers do not get this. But imagine you have to give up alcohol, chocolate, sugar, bread or anything at all. It wouldn't be easy.

I really believe that vaping makes psoriasis worse. Hence, I am writing this to make others aware to help them.
