Hi everyone
Could someone please let me know if hemp oil has any great affect on controlling psoriasis, and if so how long does it take to work, I have tried various creams from my gp but none never seem to keep it under control for long, I currently use dovobet.
Any replies would be much appreciated.
Chris

Hello Chris  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

It has been mentioned by some members, but there isn't many update from those that have used it. You could try looking in Natural Treatments For Psoriasis

Personally I doubt you are ever going to find anything like that that is going to work and if it does it won't be long term. Your best bet would be to get your GP to refer you to a dermatologist as they are better suited to treat you.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Chris and  Welcome  to the forum ....in answer to your question I would say it's unlikely to have much effect ...there are many claims made but I've yet to read of anyone claiming long term relief using it ...but I could be wrong

My advice to you if you are struggling to control it and it's obviously bothering you or you wouldn't be scouring the net for answers , is to go to your GP and ask for a referral to a dermatologist ...they have a bigger arsenal of treatments that GPS can't prescribe ...
Tell your GP that you are struggling and have heard that steroid creams are meant for short term use and you are worried about your skin thinning and would like a referral Thumb

I hope you enjoy yourself here,  the site is full of personal experiences of fellow sufferers,  if you put hemp oil uni the search facility Search it should throw some threads up for you to look at

Hi Fred/ jim
I have in the past been referred to the hospital for the tanning both, which in fact did totally clear my psoriasis, but again only lasted a few months and it was back again☹️, I'm going to purchase some hemp oil at the weekend and try it, (nothing to loose) and will keep you updated as to how it goes.

Thanks it would be interesting to hear how it works for you, I hope I'm wrong and it does wonders  Smile

But I still think you should see a dermatologist and get something that could last a long time
I've been six years clear on my tablets and am enjoying a normal life, swimming . Walks on the beach not much vacuuming ... there are so many good treatments you should be able to get one of them ..
I say go get the hemp oil and try it,  but at the same time get on the waiting list for dermatology  Thumb

Very good question Chris ....as you can see from my profile I'm getting on a bit ....I got psoriasis at 17 and struggled with creams and lotions UV treatments all my adult life ....let's say 47 years fighting it and hiding it and being embarrassed by it. Going to hospital and getting seen and basically fobbed of with cheap ineffective treatments that thinnned my skin so it ripped easily ....it was by chance when I was chatting to students at the teaching hospital that their tutor whispered the word Fumaderm in my ear ...he said ask for it ...that was six years ago and ( touch wood) it keeps working for me

Side effects I'm not going to lie and say there weren't any ....I was warned by the tutor that it wasn't easy ...I got awful intestinal cramps most days as my body fought the drug .and hot flushes like you could cook an egg on my face .....but I stuck with it as I saw my skin clearing ...a few weeks in and the side effects diminished and after about 4 months I think they stopped ...but I still get flushes that aren't unpleasant even now but I don't get so red with them now

That's why I encourage sufferers to see a dermatologist after reading of members experiences here, then you can ask the right questions and get good treatment and not have to wait as long as me to get something that works

Hi and welcome to the forum Chris.
I have heard people mention hemp oil but I have not heard anyone say that they have had good results from it, if you want a good oil to use then coconut oil is as good as it gets. I have had P fora long time and have tried some many treatments I have lost count, I used methotrexate for 9 years and got good results but the side effects caught up with me so now I am on Stelara with nothing in the way of side effects and fantastic results . The thing to remember though is that we are all different both in results and side effects that we have to different treatments so what works for one does not necessarily work for another .
Have a good look around as this site has more information on P an PsA than anywhere that I have found plus Fred does no allow any adverts or con artists selling miracle cures for lots of money, the inmates are friendly and if you have the P or PsA this is the place to be.

Hi, I've got a cream called Bask heavenly hemp, I believe it's an American product containing hemp oil amongst other things. I wouldn't called it a successful treatment for P on its own but it is quite good.
I'm in a different camp over coconut oil, I guess by the sound of it most people find it helpful so it's definitely worth a try, but personally I find if anything it makes my P more sore.
