Thank you very much for your welcome and again for reading my ramble!!  It's not something I do often but it felt good to get my frustration out there so thanks for your kind words.

I should fit into the club very then well if most members are more or less insane  Wink Ah Fred, well as a newbie i can only believe what he tells me (for now lol) I guess!!  Rolleyes

As for my PPP, I completely agree with what you are saying, they are already talking to me about a drug called Acitretin and have given me a leaflet on it, so fully expect to be given that at some point in the near future...... Because I have PPP, the hospital have also asked me to consider going on a trial drug/placebo in January, it is called the APRICOT trial but to be honest as this is all new to me at the moment, I will revisit again in January and decide then.....

Thanks again Caroline  Smile

Hi Wooleyb,

I like that you have a good feeling about the forum and its inhabitants,   Big Grin , it's very nice to have you here.

Acetretin is a known one. There are several members who have tried it or who are on it.

The apricot trail however might be something interesting. I have read something about it, and it is an Il-1 inhibitor.
On other places on the net, I find the following:
Quote:
Cytokines of the interleukin-1 (IL-1) family, such as IL-1α/β and IL-18, have important functions in host defense, immune regulation, and inflammation. Insight into their biological functions has led to novel therapeutic approaches to treat human inflammatory diseases.

So I think that is interesting. It is a different inhibitor than most other biologicals or systemics, e.g. Acetretin does not aim for this IL-1, DMF however does.

Our body contains  very complex chemical reactions. And our immune system circles around all kinds of cytokines, interleukins, T-helper cells, pathways, and more. It is so complex that to investigate one tiny reaction they need a whole study.
But on the average we have an idea of the triggers of Psoriasis, which still means that we do not know the cause of why these triggers are activated.
What medicine gradually can do is reduce the triggers and so reduce the psoriasis. They still cannot take away the cause....

Hey Caroline  Wave

Thanks, I am indeed feeling good about the forum and its inhabitants  Wink

Yes I am guessing that Acitretin is a well known treatment, would be interested to see who is currently on it and how they are getting on with it....

re the trial, you are of course correct and know a lot more about it than me for sure, hopefully come January I will be in a much better frame of mind to make a decision as to whether i take part or not, whilst I am keen to help out in any way, it is still a bit soon for me, my head is already spinning with all that's happening at the moment...but come January, if everything is kind of under control, I may take part in the trial....agree though too it isn't going to take the cause away....I will keep you all posted on APRICOT though as time goes by....

Ah thanks jiml, I will have a look later on at the threads.  Agree though everyone is different but it will be good to get a decent overview.....

Just a quick thought, I know that everyone is different and the side effects are the same but when I was on acitretin I had problems with ingrowing nails especially toe nails so just keep an eye on that.

Oh blimey!! this drug sounds more and more appealing - NOT!! lol!  Well thanks for the advice, I will see how it goes with everything else they are giving me/suggesting to me before I make a decision on acitretin..... Confused  I started PUVA treatment today, not holding out much hope for that though but fingers crossed for a little improvement, even if it is short term.... It is certainly confusing all the things out there it would seem.... Confused  thanks for the heads up though Dave....

You could mention to the dermatologist the drug I'm on Fumaderm ....it's a brilliant drug if you can tolerate it and if they will prescribe it  see Jims continued use of Fumaderm
