Hi everyone!

I am Angie from Sydney, Australia! I am 32 years old and am a psoriasis sufferer.

I discovered this forum while I was doing my weekly search into different options to treat my psoriasis. 

I have had psoriasis for 8 years now, when I was pregnant. Initially, it was on different spots on my back, which didn't really bother me until it started appearing on my arm and now my leg and knees. 
The problem I have is being able to afford creams and wanting to ideally purchase my own UV light that I can do treatment at home.
I find that the prescription creams and coal tar help more than the natural method, but I find that my psoriasis likes to attack my body when I am on the off chance of not having any creams :(

But anyway, this is me and my journey.

Hi Angie and a warm welcome to our club.   

You will find us a friendly bunch. Fred the sites owner does an excellent job keeping us free of trolls and scammers. Pretty nearly everyone on here suffers from some form of psoriasis or other and will happily share their experience of this disease.
Like yourself I found the older coal tar treatments better than the more up to date topical. Just be careful if you decide to go down the home UV route. Although some people do get significant clearance, it shouldn't be considered as a long term treatment as it can have some nasty side effects. And let's face it Sydney isn't exactly shy on the natural sun   . If that doesn't help, a expensive lamp won't. I am assuming your are under the care of a dermatologist? If not they have an arsenal treatments available to them both topical and systemic.
Feel free to ask any questions and have a good hunt through the site there is a wealth of information. 
Don't forget the off topic area, you will often find somebody in the bar if you need some light refreshment.

Hi Angie and   to the club you will find us a very friendly group of fellow sufferers. And this site gives us a platform to share our experiences and support each other through the good periods and the bad periods with the disease, there is so much information here, about the disease and its treatment. If you need any help navigating around the site or a question just shout out and someone will reply

Creams and light treatment will give some temporary relief, but ideally you should see a dermatologist and explain that the disease is affecting your life badly and it's time to move on to something to restore your self esteem check out the treatments available here Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis as the over the counter creams and scams that are advertised are usually no more than expensive moisturisers, and will just empty your purse

Please, do not buy your own UV light

You need to have that sort of a thing under controlled circumstances, ie; Dermatology departments.

As our John said, you have that big hot orangey thing up in the sky called a sun to help you

If you do try and purchase a uv lamp, i'll call my cousins, the Koala bear family and get them to gang up on you, OK ?

Everyone here is very supportive and friendly.

Surprised you don't notice a difference in the natural sun. I know I did and went down the home UV route with a specialised lamp after lots of research, very easy to burn etc. I wouldn't have if I had sun but the UK is considerably different to Sydney.

Hi Angie,

I can second Andy re the UV light. Besides, there is all the sun you need in Australia. You can get Stockholm tar from horse supply shops. It is the basis of tar based creams and shampoos. Most importantly, see a dermatologist and get a treatment plan devised for yourself. It may be that topicals are all you need, but if they are not up to the job you should be accessing the health system. It is not perfect, but it is very likely your best option.

Hello Angie to Psoriasis Club.

Be very careful self treating especially with your own UV light it could actually make your problem worse. I don't know how you health system works but like Bill said "it's not perfect" but it's best to get treated properly.

Have a good look around and feel free to start new threads to ask specific questions, none of us a medicaly trained but between us we have a lot of hands on experience on dealing with psoriasis.
