I would say when you see your Doctor or dermatologist ask about UV treatment on the National Health as when it's done at a hospital it's monitored and should allay your fears of cancer

That is for sure!!!

Laura the best advise I could give you would be to wait till you have a confirmed diagnoses from a dermatologist. We have a wide range of people all using different types of treatments, but you have to remember that what works for one may not work for another.

Those of us that get clear are passionate about our treatment (and rightly so) but sometimes it can become information overload for someone who is either new to psoriasis or not yet diagnosed. We can all point you to what has worked for us but you must get conformation from a dermatologist, then you can decide to go with what they say (my recommendation) or go it alone.

But until you have a confirmed diagnoses any treatments we recommend could make matters worse or may not even be available to you. Psoriasis is a difficult thing to treat and it's important to get it right, so please don't go following what any of us are telling you apart from "Get it diagnosed"

If it's psoriasis then your dermatologist will work with you to find something that manages it, or you could decide to go it alone and we can help you here with whatever way you choose to go.

If it's not psoriasis then you will still have to decide the best way forward, but you are a member and you will always be welcome and your information could be valuable for others in the future.

Just don't go taking to much on board until you have a diagnoses. Once you have that then the questions start.

Totally agree!
Only the Derm doc can provide you with your options.

I'll admit that it was a bit worrisome for me.  I did the UV and my dermatologist even suggested I either a) continue to get out in the sun or b) use a tanning bed.  It's not often a dermatologist tells you that.  For me, I grew up getting tanned in the summertime as I lived outdoors (not much on tv at the time and no video games, computers, etc)  Skin cancer wasn't mentioned much back then.  I think it's an individual thing, if your family has a history or if very fair skinned, the risks would be higher for instance.  In some cases, UV light or the sun may be less of a risk than some medications.  So although it's something to be cautious about and try not to burn the skin, I plan on getting some wonderful sun this summer.  Smile   My vitamin D is always low so I have to take supplements, I'm also hoping a bit of sunshine will help with that.

Hi Kat!
I am so happy to be free of the ugly rashes!
I made everything to avoid skin cancer risks, and now i am clean,
i had operated two carcinomas on my face, that started to develop before i got UV treatment for my PS that covered almost of my body...
and using the uv-protection can help too.
One more thing - this lamp is especially developed to treat the PS condition. it is not like Florida sun :(((

I did UV at the doctor's office. He had also put me on Acitretin so I requested to stop the UV due to the long drive three times per week. That's when he said it would still be beneficial to either get some sun or go to a tanning bed (although I'm sure he meant very short sessions and not to go for a tan which totally takes the fun out of it Big Grin )

I've thought about a home unit but I think I'll try sunshine this summer and see how it goes. Not just for psoriasis, just to get out more, get some natural Vitamin D and be more active. I am SO glad it worked for you and I might be asking for advice come next winter time on home units. Smile

I also agree with Fred that the best thing to do and first step is to get diagnosed. It will take the uncertainty out of things and help you get started towards treatment.

Any time Kat!
We found this lamp om amazon, and carefully read all reviews and instructions.
I did not want to take any oral pills due to the heavy side effects, so we decided to go the way my derma doc had recommended.
And I also was not able to visit the clinic three times a week due to the distance, parking issue and work hours, that is is why we bought home system, as PS can be back at any time.
Clinic's light cabin made me very claustrophobic - no people around and the cabin is fully  locked -  I tried it once and got out very nervous.
We just found the way that really worked for my PS...
But i see in this group oral therapy is very useful, or injections, i don't want it to so far...Will consider it later, if it gets really bad.
Now i am totally clean (and it was PS - confirmed by by tree docs)...
I will go to "time to drink" topic now - to celebrate.
Did you see my lamp?
If not - i can attach the photo, or go to imgur svp3058Smile)
Take care! Bigarm

Hi Laura, get the appointment with the dermatologist and then go from there so you all know where you are starting from, we are all different so don't rely to much on what someone else has achieved, it could be the same for you but don't take bets on it.

@SVP No offence but can you try to keep to the topic otherwise threads tend to get messy and I have to tidy them up.

Thank you.

Fred.

No need to delete, I just wanted to keep the thread on track.

I can do it as much as everyone else, but it's best to keep on topic in the Psoriasis boards if possible as it helps our readers.
