I have a home narrow band UVB box and the mfr recommends 14" distance. If I go closer is it really bad or does the 14" distance just allow for proper diffusion?

The unit has a protective cage on the exposure side and I rest my hands on it, so my hands are only a few inches from the UVB bulbs.

I take it this your own lamp and not one under prescription from a dermatologist? I wouldn't use one without medical advice myself, so can't help.

Yes this is my own. Years ago my GP recommended I get one for self treatment.

You know there is a huge difference between the hospital UVA and narrow band UVB? UVA penetrates the first and second layers of skin while NB UVB doesn't go past the first layer.

Yes I know, but it's just me. I wouldn't use light treatment without guidance. Cool

I haven't used home uv treatment for years ....when I did if I got to close to the lamp ....I did get burnt

i don't have an answer but I would ask the manufacturer, but I would say stick with the manufacturers recommended distance to be safe uv damage to skin can be long lasting and they put recommendations on for a reason.

Sorry I couldn't offer more help ...good luck

I have a UVB lamp in my shower, and the manual says that I should keep 40 cm as a normal distance.
It looks like this. I use the UVB lamp only occasionally as it is not my type of therapy, but the infrared is very comforting.

Sorry Jim.. Confused
