I think I know what you mean, I have struggled with very dry skin, particularly on my face and at times it hadn't mattered how much I moisturised, it still peeled and flaked and I got well meaning advice from friends who obviously thought I hadn't bothered. I find it much worse after a bath or shower, even though I don't wash my face with any soap or anything. It's not so bad at the moment, as long as I get some on my face as soon as I step out of the shower. In the winter I often get cracked lips and round my nose and under my earlobes etc and I believe it must all be down to psoriasis.

Hi Turnedlight, this is very much my experience too!!! In winter it's best to avoid water on the my face except for one wash at the end of the day. One of the reasons I have stayed in Spain is because the climate helps with the psoriasis; sun and sea and the winters aren't so bad. I can imagine that living in the Uk with psoriasis would be really challenging.
And I am ALWAYS getting "helpful" suggestions from friends too
One thing that has helped in the past but that I find difficult to stick to is a Paleo type diet. Lots of vege, fruit, grassfed meats and stay away from processed foods and grains.
Thanks for the reply!  Big Grin

The paleo diet is also favoured by my doctor, who is not a normal dermatologist but a doctor with a far broader view on the functioning of life as a psoriasis patient.

Eating coconut oil? I thought it had to be used on your skin  Huh

O, by the way, a very welcome to psoriasisclub.  Big Grin
Don't mind GB or others, there are some lunatics walking around over here. Doh Luckily I am one of the few that is sensible.  Big Grin

Cheers,
Caroline

Coconut oil is sold in the supermarket for cooking, it's supposed to be very healthy. I hadn't heard of putting it on skin until recently!

Hello Hannah Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

There are two types of coconut oil Virgin and Refined. You can cook and eat both, but treat it as you would any fat and don't overdo it.

For the Skin you want the Virgin as the refined is no good for your skin.

But as you can't get on with coconut oil, another natural option worth a try is a 50/50 mix of Olive and Peanut Oils

Regards.

Fred.
