Hi All
I am feeling confused and at a loss with this disease. I have PPP and nail psoriasis and take Methotrexate  and Humira at the moment.  I am on holiday at the moment in a beautiful place and it's the most relaxed and un-stressed I've been in a long time. Before I left home my psoriasis was the worst it's ever been but within 3 days of being her it had almost cleared and I was amazed!  But once I'd been in the sea a couple of times, which my dermatologist said would be good for it, it's back with a vengeance!  My feet look like a whole layer of skin needs to come off and are cut and sore so avoiding sea and sand. My nails look better than they have in ages and just as I said that one started to lift!  I'm in the best place I can be and can't  understand how or why things can change so quickly.  Has anyone tried the Aloe Vera drink and had good results?  Would like to hear people's thoughts. Thanks?

I'll move this to Psoriasis And Psoriatic Arthritis Topics as it will get noticed better there, the Help board is for asking for help on using the forum.

It sounds to me like the Humira is failing, it can do that. I would ask if you can switch to Stelara or Cosentyx as they work in a different way. You can read more about the different types here: Biological Treatments For Psoriasis

How much longer is it before you go back home?

Re the Aloe Vera drink. Don't waste your money as it won't work.

Might it be that you live somewhere with hard water and where you are on holiday has soft water? Are you always in washing up water at home but haven't had to on holiday? Having said that, the sea would also be soft water with all that salt.. Its so hard to try and work out what causes p and what has made it improve.
It could just be the relaxation or the change of scenery?
I think you would probably be wasting money with the aloe drink too, but you might want to get a plant (if you haven't got one) and try the gel directly from a cut leaf. I have used it on burns in the past and it's very good at speeding up recovery so there might be a chance it could help..

Hi Sammi, I'm sorry this has disturbed your holiday, psoriasis can have a fun habit of doing that :( in regards to the aloe Vera, I agree the drinks are a waste of money, but agree that you'll probably find the gel quite soothing on the pustules (although it won't clear it up)

Have you tried cyclosporine for your ppp? I found once the ppp cleared up, so did the nail psoriasis (they seem to come as a package in my experience)

A non-stress situation is very good for your psoriasis evidently.
Why it came back is a riddle for me.

As Fred says, forget Aloe Vera.

Did you eat specific things? Try to avoid eating or drinking things that contains the peels of citrus or grapes. And don't eat peanuts or equivalent burnt nuts.

Walnuts are ok.

Oh, and I would quit MTX, but that is my personal opinion.

Thanks all, won't waste my money on the Aloe drink then, I wonder if I can get away with putting a big aloe vera plant in my suitcase?!
I do live in a hard water area but the pools here don't seem full of chlorine which is a good thing. I agree with the change of scenery and relaxation but can't understand how it only lasted a few days when it's the happiest and most relaxed I've been since all this started 3 yrs ago! Go home Tuesday and see dermatologist on 7th June.  She upped MTX before I came as was so bad and now I have a mouth of ulcers and a nasty coating on my tongue, anyone else had this?
Thanks all

Unfortunately Sam psoriasis can hit us hard even when we think all is well. If you really want to try Aloe Vera the plants are easy to grow in the UK and widely available so you won't need to smuggle one in with you.  Wink

I'm not a fan of Poison Methotrexate but I don't think it is know to cause mouth ulcers, others may know different.

The reason I asked about when you were coming back is because I had a nasty reaction to Humira, that doesn't mean it is happening to you but I do know of others that have had problems with it. But as you are going home Tuesday you will be fine, had you have been staying a long time I would have advised you to phone your dermatologist for advise.

My personal opinion would be to ask for Stelara on the 7th.

Oooh Sammikins....what bad news I wish I could help, something is going wrong of that there is no doubt, but what it is is difficult to pinpoint, sometimes it's  just a change of environment that makes the psoriasis flare up, not sure why you should develop mouth ulcers and possibly a fungal coating like thrush on your tongue.
I would be inclined as soon as you get home to contact your hospital and tell them, in the hope they can change your medication as it may be a reaction to either Humira or methotrexate

Hello Sammi,

I holidayed in USA once and my P was great...yet in Egypt, not so good, developed mouth ulcers as well...so sorry to here that things are going the way they are.  MTX though is rubbish...I took it for years and it did absolutely nothing except make me ill.
