Hello,
I am a new member and have suffered from Psoriasis for about 4 years. It is mainly on my back, arms, buttocks and behind my ears and has gradually worsened to the extent that it has now stopped me going swimming with my Grandchildren due to the embarrassment!
I have tried about 8 to 10 different creams and ointments since 2012, some steroid based and others not, but none of them have really helped. Some do relieve the itching and reduce the scaling skin but the large red patches remain.
I understand there isn't a magic cure for this irritating condition but can anyone recommend a treatment or course of treatments that are more successful than others and that don't include the Sun?
Many thanks

Hello DPH  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Unfortunately you are asking a question that is impossible to answer as we are all different and psoriasis is so difficult to manage. Also what works for one person may not work for others.

The best advice I could give would be to see a dermatologist. They will work with you to find the best treatment suited to your condition.

If you have tried all the creams then the next step are the oral treatments.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi DHP  Welcome to the club yes psoriasis is an embarrassing condition which we suffer with I can understand you stopping swimming with your grandchildren. But there are treatments available which could give you your life back, I would advise that you get yourself referred to a dermatologist, as the creams are meant for short term use and you need to move on to the next step
I wish you luck in your search, you will find this forum packed with useful information about treatments and members experiences
Feel free to ask if you can't find anything on here, and join us in our very active off topic section for a chat or a virtual drink  Big Grin

Welcome!

Fred pretty much summed up what I'd say as well. The topical stuff worked the same for me, it helped a bit with itching, but overall didn't really help. From what I've read from members here, it's pretty much topicals, oral then biologics which goes with what my dermatologist said the order of treatment would be. The good part is that you can read up on different treatments here and be a bit more informed when you see your doctor as to what you would like to try if given any choice. Sometimes ... they don't really give you a choice. Good luck! Smile

Many thanks to Fred, Jiml and Kat for the speedy responses.
I will take the advice you all recommend and re-visit my doctor for a referral to a dermatologist.
Many thanks once again.

Very wise. Do look through the available treatments here so you can have a meaningful discussion with your doctor if he tries to push you off with more creams.
Read about what you may be offered
Methotrexate
Acitretin
Ciclosporine
Or if in the uk you may get
Fumaderm
