Cosentyx significantly improves itching, pain, and scaling

A bit of a biased study as it was funded by Novartis the makers but it suggests Coentyx (secukinumab) significantly improves patient-reported itching, pain, and scaling.

Background:
Secukinumab is a human interleukin-17A antagonist indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy. The objective of this analysis was to measure the treatment response on psoriasis-related itching, pain, and scaling via the Psoriasis Symptom Diary (PSD)©.

Methods:

The proportions of subjects achieving prespecified responses (improvement:reduction of at least 2.2 points for itching, 2.2 points for pain, or 2.3 points for scaling) were compared for secukinumab versus placebo.

Results:
Overall, 39% of subjects completed the PSD at baseline and Week 12 (n = 453 secukinumab; 225 placebo). Subjects treated with secukinumab achieved significantly greater improvements in itching, pain, and scaling at Week 12 versus placebo (all P < 0.0001) and had significantly greater proportions of itching, pain, and scaling responders at Week 12 versus placebo (all P < 0.05).

Conclusion:
Secukinumab significantly improves patient-reported itching, pain, and scaling in adults with moderate to severe psoriasis compared with placebo.

But it still shows an impressive clearance at week 12

Yes I'm not keen on studies funded by the maker, but as cosentyx is still new it is relevant.

Currently, all biologic treatments for psoriasis, including anti-tumor necrosis factor therapies (anti-TNFs) and Stelara (ustekinumab) are recommended for second-line systemic therapy in Europe.

Hello Quest I'm sorry but I think we are misunderstanding each other (it's a hobby of mine)  

I have read the reports, we have them here: Cosentyx approved for treating psoriasis in Europe

But what I was referring to in my comment is that a Bio will not be given as a First Line treatment. The protocol dictates #1 Creams #2 Light #3 Oral #4 Bio. So what I'm saying is it will never be given first.

I think the reference in the official statement Cosentyx approved for treating psoriasis in Europe means it can be offered as a first line when moving on to bio's instead of trying Remicade, Enbrel, Humira, Stelara first.

I hope that explains what I was meaning and I certainly do not think you "Pull things out of your hat" and I was not insinuating that you do.
