Hi all, 
I am Joanne. New to this site and posting , as well. Lived with psoriasis for 40 years now. Completely clear due to Stelara, but now facing major dental issues. Saw a few threads on subject. Is anyone else suffering from this ?  Thank you.

Hi Joanne and    to the forum. I'm afraid I don't have an answer to your question, and over here in England  it's just gone midnight and many members have left the site for today, I'm sure if you will get an answer anywhere it will be from someone here,

The site is packed with information on all treatments ... There is no hype here we are all happy to share what knowledge we have from personal experience. There are many members on Stelara so you will get replies .

In the meantime feel free to browse the health boards , and if you want to escape psoriasis join us in the off topic section where there are lots of threads that are more light hearted where members let their hair down .

Good to hear Stelara has helped clear your P. I too have had P over 40 years. Now dealing with PSA. Some issues with my jaw joint due to PSA. Causes the joint to lock up occasionally.
I take apremalast for PSA.. But not experienced tooth loss other than a few cracks in fillings that cause abscess. I go in every 6 months for cleaning & check ups. Some drugs I have taken in the past has depleted the calcium in my teeth so I am extra diligent with keeping my teeth clean.
You aren't the only one that has asked about teeth loss on bio drugs. I hear it a lot. I have done research on the Internet & could not find it as a side effect. Some of these bio drugs are new in the market and may not have enough time to evaluate all the side effects. My rhumey also said that bio drugs have no connection that he knows of.
I always wonder if it could be some type of bacteria from the gut while on bio drugs that can cause tooth decay or even bone loss. If anyone knows you'll most likely find it here.
Hope you will get thru this issue soon. It's very unpleasant dealing with any dentist as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't noticed any connection between psoriasis or treatment and tooth problems personally. I have had problems in the past with sinus infections that have led to having to seek out a dentist and I'm a firm believer that when "x" is injured or affected by disease that other problems throughout the body can occur. It's all connected so I do think one thing can possibly affect another. I also believe that everyone is different in that what can affect one (or help one) may not be the same for the next person. Sorry, not much help really in answering your question.

That could be true as psoriasis has a connection with the Keobner Effect. One issue stars another. I have experienced that in more ways than I would like. So there could be that effect. Google P Keobner Effect for more info.

Thank you all so very much for the quick response. These biologics are such a double edged sword. So happy to be rid  of p(for now) , but strange things seem to appear out of nowhere. While on Enbrel for 3 years, I was doing great, but developed strange allergic reactions to  things like coffee w cream . Something I have daily caused my throat to close..scary!  Now with Stelara my teeth are a mess. I need 5 implants, bone graphs, sinus lift. Just last week, unrelated to the current dental mess...another bridge came loose and fell out. Hmmmm. Do I go off the drug.. Teeth vs P lol. I need my teeth, but I NEVER want p to come back like it was before biologics. As you all know, it's a nightmare that you learn to live with. Many times I could not put  a comb through my head without bleeding, as anyone with scalp p knows. Anyway, sorry for rambling on. Thank you again, as I will keep you posted.

Hi there, nice to meet you! Sorry to hear about the teeth, it is worrying isn't it? I had a big tooth infection when my dentist decided to to a root canal whilst I was on mtx. I told him I was, expecting some antibiotics, but he said I didn't need it.. Big mistake! However, that wasn't dental problems caused by biologics. I'm now on Humira, will watch my teeth carefully..

Hi and welcome to the forum Joanne , I had 9 years on MTX and now have been on Stelara for around 3 years and I have not noticed any correlation with the treatment and tooth problems. sorry to hear that you are having difficulties.
Infections, well yes in fact more with MTX than Stelara but all have been manageable to date anyway.
Have a good look around the site as there is a fantastic amount of information on here and we also have a bit of light hearted fun.

Hello Joanne to Psoriasis Club.

I've been on Stelara over 5 year snow and not had any problems with teeth other than the usual stuff we all get, I also don't know of any relation to teeth problems and Stelara.

So I would say stay on the Stelara and get your dental problems sorted, none of us like loosing our teeth but it does happen and I would rather have a few dentures than flaky skin.
