I think most would have thoughts about self injecting, and although I have not used the Metoject it looks very much like the "Pen" type of shots used for the bio's.

I personally prefer the syringes with bio's as I find them easier and less painful, but the most important thing with self injecting is that once you get used to it it is a simple process.

I think the biggest problem is understanding that the injection only goes under the skin, it's when we start thinking of it going into the veins that it becomes a problem.

Good luck Pingu, take a deep breath and make sure you are in a quiet place on your own it will be fine.

Currently awaiting a call to go and get shown how to stab myself in the thigh and stomach inject myself which I am not looking forward to and then I will be put on Metoject, should happen in the next 2-3 weeks.

Really not looking forward to it as having to inject myself fills me with dread and doing it every week! Just have some serious reservations.

I guess if I can't work with it we need to find something else but my consultant seems convinced this will help stailise and get rid of that little bit of psoriasis that has returned on elbows.

It is daunting I agree and I haven't had to do that to myself with any of my treatments yet, if you struggle with it could Mrs Pingu ( if there is a Mrs Pingu) help you with it.... I'm really squeamish ....or I used to be until my wife started home dialysis, and I can now happily stick needles in her arm, when needed, something I never thought I would do....as a young man I used to pass out having a blood test ....it's amazing what you can do when you have to.
Good luck I'm sure you will be fine Thumb

Well Mrs Pingu (Mrs by default not married as she is not that lucky Big Grin) is a carer and has done all that kind of thing and would be as happy to stick needles in me all day as I would be happy to stick needles in her.

I know it is massively psychological as I had an injury with an open wound just a couple of years ago when I was travelling extensively. Explaining to the nurses I couldn't take time off they trained me to pack and dress it myself. It was in a place that I needed a mirror to view!!!!!!!!!!!! First time nearly threw up then the burses just monitored my progress for 2 weeks until my next trip and then I returned 3 weeks later (5 weeks total). They were impressed as they had never seen anyone dress and pack that kind of wound themselves.

So yes I can do it (once I get over the initial squeamishness)! Hell NO I don't want to! I still hate having my bloods done having had two sets and a flu jab in one day in December and having bloods done on an almost weekly basis right now.

Fasting bloods tonight!

I still think it is easier than lotions and creams every night and I am more free but having all my bloods done ever 5 minutes is getting tiresome!

Just remember it's nothing like having the bloods done, it's just a tiny needle going under the skin. Thumb

I just used to measure four fingers distance from my belly button then pinch a couple of inches of skin with my left hand then holding the syringe at the bottom of the container with the right hand just above the needle just push it in at a almost straight angle, you can then transfer the syringe to the left hand that you were pinching the skin with and press the plunger steadily down with the right hand , with holding the syringe at the bottom where is goes into the skin you have complete control and then you can withdraw it in one quick movement. No problems at all, did it for over three years with MTX every week and now with Stelara .
Best of luck and you will soon get used to it.

Syringes are the best way to go. The only thing you need to be concerned about is the amount of air in syringe before you inject. Those air bubbles tend hurt if they are big.

I always found that the prefilled syringe never had air trapped in it and could be used OK with no problems.

I don't think it is a syringe. Pingu said "I will be put on Metoject" I could be wrong but I thought they are like the Pen type of injections.
