question about applying prescription ointment on arms and other areas

hi just a simple question.i have a prescription ointment from my doctor that im suppose to apply to twice a day (salacytic acid and fluocin) .my question is do i rub in to apply? or do i apply it and let it stay on? then on the 2nd time do i wipe the original ointment off?or just overlay another application?thank you for any help

Yes it's a simple question, the cream you have is I think salicylic acid and a steroid ointment , whenever I have used steroid ointments I have always rubber it well in, and wash it off if there's any still on when you next apply it
It can be difficult if your psoriasis is severe, it's much easier if you just have a few plaques

If you rub it well in so it can get through the plaques and work on the lower layers of live skin
I'm sure if you come back again you will get other answers.
In the meantime have a good look through the health boards, as there is a lot of good information here
Any questions just shout there's usually someone close by although I am 5 hours ahead of you and heading off to bed but some American colleagues may well be on later

Hello Goofyshoes   to Psoriasis Club.

I would massage it in well to the effected area only, then wash your hands afterwards as you don't want to use it where your skin is ok. As for washing it off, I would just put the next layer on in the same way straight over the top. Then in the morning have a warm shower with some nice moisturising Gel or Soap and start all over again, try to avoid moisturising soaps with perfumes or Parabens. (You may prefer to have a shower in the evening and not apply anything before going to bed as some ointments can stain your bed clothes, and it may effect your sleep as you could feel greasy).

Like Jim said you may get other opinions, but that's how I used to do mine.

I did the same with topicals, rub them in at least a bit. I've never had to remove any for my next application as they had absorbed (or maybe rubbed off), but that could be just different topicals.

My only advice would be is that if you have P on your hands get some food you can eat with utensils because the last thing you want is to ingest some of the stuff. Perhaps even wait till you've eaten.

Yep one should always wash your hands after using topicals, Coconut Oil / Olive Oil / Etc is fine as it's a food but prescribed should always be washed off your hands.

The big problem I've had with creams etc is transfer onto different things, my desk, keyboard, mouse and chair and everything else I touch with my arms etc. Its seriously annoying.
