Fumaderm advice wanted

It's great to know the details and I was nervous about going up to 8 anyway so I've decided to go back to 6 per day until my next appointment as I don't want to do any damage to myself.

Thanks so much for the wealth of information and Caroline - I will definitely ask about the medication you're taking to see what they say. I have a sneaking suspicion I'm the first patient my Dermatologist has treated with Fumaderm so I'm not sure she'll know about alternatives but it's always worth asking.

Weird isn't it... It is already so long known and so much research has been done. I just posted in RE: [split] Dimethylfumarates and Psoriasis.. a link to an article about this research. And still so much doctors don't know about it.

I've just found this on p.121 of Systemic Drug Treatment in Dermatology: A Handbook edited by Sarah H. Wakelin, Howard I. Maibach, Clive B. Archer

It says the max dose on Fumaderm is 1.2g/day.

However I have only seen references to 6*120mg and from your advise I'm going to stick with my 6 anyway!

Hi guys, I am new to this group and have to say it is a wealth of knowledge. Great to hear everyones stories. I have been prescribed Fumadern and should be starting the  initial 30g today. Im so wary of starting it and havent a clye wheb is the best time of day to start?? Should I take in the morning after my breakfast?? Of with my dinner in evening? Any advice guys I would be so grateful.

I have only recently joined here too but everyone is so helpful and I've never seen so much useful information, especially on Fumaderm!

I am six months in to treatment with Fumaderm now...from my personal experience, I have found that its best for me to take it with a fairly substantial meal so I would suggest taking it with your biggest meal of the day. Perhaps in the evening as you should sleep through any side effects then

Ok guys thank you so much for the warm welcome. Im on way home from work now so will take my 1st tablet midway through dinne.  Its so weird being nervous about this, but the support here is a great boost. I will let you guys know how I get on. I have read here that peppermint tea might help with side effects. If anyone has any other tips on taking this med please let me know. If I am going to be taking it 4 times a day in the 4th week should I eat before I take it everytime? Can it be a snack??  Apologies id this sounds silly but Im clueless here

It's only natural to be nervous...I know I was! But just remember you're starting on a small doseand you're being closely monitored by the docs too

I'm now on the equivalent of 24 of the 30mg tablets a day and I'm still going strong!

I only experienced the hot flushes and rashes at the start which were fleeting (less than half an hour)

I've heard eating dairy such as yoghurts is a good idea when taking each dose but personally I am dairy free as I also have IBS.

I try to break my dosage up into 3 so I can have it with each meal. So when I was on 4 a day, I had 1 in the morning, one at lunch and 2 at dinner.

Hi Sarah and a very warm    to the forum as you can see there is a wealth of knowledge taken from personal experience on here, we are a small and friendly group of sufferers who have already started sharing their experiences with you
I can't add any more to what has been said already.... Kath has given you good advice and im sure if you follow that you will be fine ... If you feel nervous just come and talk. If you get the side effects at least you will have been warned on here and they will pass
I will follow your journey closely ..... Just shout if you are unsure of anything there's usually a friendly member here to chat with
