Another update. The 800mg dosage is working very well, with little redness and flaking, and a Pasi below 0.5. The possibility of having a clear skin is tantalisingly close, and as the disease has been reducing very gradually with minor oscillations, I am still hopeful of such an event. I have been trying to minimise the amount of DMF I take and I have determined that a dose every third day is effective. Taken less often I begin to notice a bit more arthritis by day three. I also reconfirmed that taking bananas together with DMF is not a good idea. The tummy upset tends to be twice as bad and lasts twice as long, about four hours compared with about 2 hours for DMF taken without bananas.
Cheers, Bill

I'm glad it's working well for you Bill how is the idea of the blood count working out are you getting any results yet?

Thanks for your update Bill, very valuable.
Very good to hear such a low pasi score. I've tried to follow your idea to concentrate a little higher dose, 7 instead of 6, with one day in between. The immediate effect of it is that my intestines get really upset by this approach, normal is 3 morning 3 evening and within a few hours quite a heavy flush. Caroline

Hi Caroline,
Yes, the bigger doses do have more of a kick. I never had flushes on doses less than 600 mg, but on 800 mg a flush always develops after about 20 minutes and lasts a couple of hours. The upset tummy symptoms are ameliorated with a big meal as long as I dont eat bananas. You dont have to totally stuff yourself as that has its own unpleasant side effects, but a bit of a fast beforehand is not a bad idea. Sometimes I think it would be good if the side effects were pleasant, but were that the case DMF may have been banned as a drug of addiction and would have been impossible for me to obtain. Good luck. I hope it works for you. Cheers, Bill

A further update. I have been maintaining an 800mg single dose three times weekly. This regime is very effective. My Pasi remains below 0.5, with about 0.5% of my skin with inactive plaques, the biggest being a spot on my right shin about the size of a finger. The arthritis is reduced, but still a bloody nuisance. I would gladly suffer a Pasi of 40 in its stead.
I did another white cell count and got a result around 9, up from around 5.5 when I last checked in October. I will repeat the test over the next few weeks to get a more accurate result as I am sure that I am a bit rusty, then I will have a go at a differential count. If the result is accurate it would suggest that for me, higher dosages taken less frequently are effective against the disease but do not suppress the white cell count to the same extent, and perhaps not at all. Cheers, Bill

I would rather be completely covered in flakes of psoriasis than have psoriatic arthritis to cope with. When you say you're getting rusty with the tests, does that mean you're not monitoring yourself properly? If so get your white coat on and get back in your lab. Take care. Fred. |
