An update. I had a blood test on Tuesday. I have been on weekly doses of 800 mg, or 3200 mg for 28 days. I have been supplementing daily with cysteine and glutamine. My total white cell count was unchanged at 5.5, but my lymphocyte count has increased from 0.77 to 0.935. This is much more than I expected, but not enough to convince me that the amino acid supplementation is of use. I will continue the supplementation and increase my dosage by 1600 mg to 4800 mg for the next 28 day period.

Cheers

Great news Bill it's good to see those numbers coming up....it's looking very healthy at 0.935 whatever the reason I'm glad you're getting close to a normal reading ...it will be interesting to see if the numbers hold up when you increase the dose by half as much again .....are you increasing it because it's not as effective at the 800mg dose and the disease is coming back ?
I have my fingers crossed Thumb

Hi Jim,

A weekly dose of 800 mg is less than optimal for me, but because of the lymphopaenia I have not been able to dose effectively for nearly five months. That being said, the change is slight. Skin wise, there are a couple of spots on my scalp and a spot a few millimetres across on a lower eyelid. Otherwise there is no change. The arthritis is noticeable but far from severe, and is well controlled with irregular doses of nsaids and paracetamol.

It will be a few months before I can draw any inferences from the glutamine supplements, but a 0.16 increase in the latest count was nearly twice my expectation, so I am encouraged.

Cheers

Another update. I have increased my dosage of DMF by 50% for the first four weeks after my last test to 4800 mg. Over the past fortnight I have been taking 1600 mg weekly. The latest test result:

Total WBC:5.6    N:3.9   L:0.896  M:0.6  E:0.11  B:0.06

So my lymphocytes have decreased by only 0.04, despite the increase in dosage. I will decrease the dosage to 4000 mg per month and will have a further blood test in six weeks. By doing this I hope to finally get my lymphocyte count back above 1. At this level I will have another go at increasing the dosage. I have been supplementing with ~7 grams of glutamine daily, and I will  continue with this amount. I am still holding to the idea that a higher lymphocyte count will support a higher DMF dose.

Cheers,

Bill

That's a great set of results Bill the slight drop is inconsequential, you seem to be on the right track. Yes it seems as if a higher lymphocyte count will support a higher dose. But I think possibly odd infections will occasionally knock the lymphocytes down and you will then have to reduce the dose to bring them up again.
Good luck, great to read your progress

Since December 2012, so a bit over 4 1/2 years, Fred. I haven't noticed any loss of effectiveness with my current dosing.

Cheers.

That's a good testimony of it's efficacy Bill and well done for being the guinea pig.

Long may it continue. Thumb
