Hi everyone and good afternoon evening wherever you are!

Went to the doctors last week and asked for exorex lotion as I had heard it was very good for clearing up guttate psoriasis! It has cleared across my chest nearly gone from arms, legs are starting to look more sunburnt now, which is how my chest looked before it eventually went away! tummy is looking much better too and more sunburnt also.

Has anyone used the lotion? I quite like it although it can't be used if you are planning on going out into the sunshine because it contains real coal tar! It smells okay too and is quite a thin lotion and pleasant to use.

anyone else had good results using exorex. It is really expensive too if you can't get it on prescription.

I've not used it myself so hopefully someone else will have more info for you but for now I have checked it out and the following may help.

Contraindications:
Do not use if sensitive to any of the ingredients.

Presence of folliculitis and acne vulgaris.

Exorex should not be used on patients who have disease characterised by photosensitivity such as lupus erythematosus or allergy to sunlight.

Exorex should not be applied to inflamed or broken skin (open exuding wounds or infection of the skin).

Sadly due to my PPD allergy I can't use any coal tar treatments. When I was in hospital they insisted on wrapping me in tar treatments even though I told them I was allergic to PPD which is a coal tar derivative.

Needless to say I blistered from head to toe and they were reticent to stop the tar treatment in favour of UVB (which cleared my skin completely).

Before my allergy developed I did use exorex on my scalp but like everything else I have tried it was absolutely no use what-so-ever.

That sounds awful! why couldn't the doctors have listened in the first place. UVB sounds brilliant it works for so many people! Was that the exorex shampoo you used?

I have the exorex lotion it is wonderful stuff! I apply it twice a day or once a day if I am going out in the sun.

Hi Aria,

I used both the shampoo and lotion as a child, but as with pretty much every treatment it didn't help much.

The dermatology ward here in Aberdeen is not the best to be honest. I was scheduled to go into the ward for intensive UVB, as per the instructions of my dermatologist (who is fab), but once in the ward they totally disregarded everything that had been agreed.

Needless to say I was rather vociferous about how I was treated, i was just lucky that I b**ched enough that they stopped the tar treatment as my reaction to PPD is very severe. It was a battle though and even then they still wanted me to use cocois (??) on my scalp which made it blister and weep as it's a coal tar treatment too. I can't even use t-gel shampoo that's how bad I am.

Be warned that you can develop an allergy to coal tar/ PPD over time from using it for psoriasis, my derm thinks the 10 years of using it as a child could have caused my allergy.

Hope you find that it helps your skin though, different treatment work for different people, i'm on MTX for my PsA but it has done nothing for my skin..... While I know folks who have had complete clearance in weeks of using it.

Just make sure you get out and enjoy the summer sun!

It is rubbish when creams, tablets don't work and can make things worse sometimes!
