pine tar soap

Hello everyone!

Just been looking on amazon at pine tar soap. Has anyone ever tried it for psoriasis? Is it any good? and is it safe? I have heard it may contain creosote which causes cancer

If anyone has tried it what did you think?

I have used pine tar soap and it was fine. It's a bit like Marmite - love it or hate it! (It has a strong small and the soap is dark brown). I had no irritation from it but have not purchased any more as it is rather expensive. At the moment I am using Pears soap and Santex shower cream.

Is the smell really horrible or does it fade after a while? It is quite expensive, I have been using Wrights coal tar soap and find it causes no irritation and it is cheaper than the pine tar soap.

Pears soap is lovely and sanex 0% is very good too

I like the smell, it doesn't linger on your body but it does hang about in the bathroom! It's a bit like Wrights but much stronger.
If your current soap is fine then I would stick with what works for you. I did not notice any change in my skin (for better or worse) from using the soap so have gone back to my usual products. I believe that the pine tar soap has good antiseptic properties so would be good if you were prone to infection...

Wrights soap has antiseptic in it too, so is probably just as good!

I recently purchased Grandpa's Pine Tar soap and have been using it for one week. It's too early to tell if it's working or not but I'm really hoping it does. I have plaque P on my knees and on one elbow and I'm sick of being embarrassed to wanted to try something new. Quick question does anyone else scrub away the silvery white skin? I use lava stone in the shower to prevent from the plaque from getting so raised/large. If this soap doesn't help I'm going to try MG217 Medicated Tar Ointment which has great reviews on amazon from people with P. I'll update everyone on the outcome of the soap soon, I image a month is more than enough time to determine if it's working or not. on a side note the smell isn't that bad and doesn't stay with you.

I noticed this is your first post so a big to the forum.
I would go easy on the lava stone in case you damage your skin which could aggrevate your psoriasis. I find towards the end of a shower I can rub the dead skin away with my hand or an exfoliating sponge. Give it a try, more gentle than a lava stone (or pumice as we say here!). Look forward to hearing your update.

Thanks Lady Bugley! you noticed lava stone lol, I was having a brain freeze at the moment and pumice would not come to mind! Ok, I will try more gentle exfoliation. seems like it grows so fast.
