I have a thread in Off Topic [Group Specific] about loosing my sense of smell after having a bad case of the flu.

I didn't think at the time that it may be of interest to others with psoriasis, but in the end I thought I would mention it here too as I'm using Stelara.

I'm not for one minute saying it's a problem with Stelara as I have researched and can't find any evidence of loss of smell whilst using it. But to cut a long story short you can read more in off topic I lost my smell after a bad case of the Flu around Dec/Jan and it has not come back. I have now seen a specialist and he confirmed the virus probably killed my smell senses.

Again I'm not saying it's related, but Stelara and other Bio treatments do lower your immune system, and the specialist told me as I was taking it I should have gone to him sooner.

So if you loose your smell, go to your GP immediately if you are on a Bio as I have been told there is no guarantee of it coming back.

If anyone does know more about a link with the loss of smell and psoriasis please post here.

Just thought I would give an update to this post.

I've had a load of scans and tests and apparently the bad case of the flu I had has destroyed my smell receptors and some taste receptors. No one can find any link with this and psoriasis or Stelara so all is well there, as for my sense of smell! It may come back or it may not. Confused

At the moment I still have no sense of smell, and I don't hold out much hope of it returning.

Poor old Fred that don't sound like much fun. I seriously hope you get it back though.

On the bright side I suppose you don't get all those terrible country smells. Thumb
On the down side no aroma from coffee or Merlot Thumbsdown

Actually although there are some cows and sheep around, you don't get horrible smells as we are surrounded by vast amounts of huge Oak trees for miles which remove all the pollutants.

Yes I do miss the smell from my Espresso machine, but as for the Merlot, never really noticed the smell as it goes down to quick. (Hic) Cool

I tried being romantic again yesterday but it didn't work. I told Mrs Fred I missed the smell of her long hair when it was wet as it reminded me of our old Dog. Doh

I still don't get it, my old dog had a lovely smell when he was all wet and soggy. Surely comparing her with my dog is romantic. Huh

Jim I'm always willing to help, maybe I should start a Fred's charm school thread. Thumb

Just thought I would give a little update to this thread in case anyone found it from a search.

The professor I went to see yesterday about the lump in my neck was from the Ears, Nose, & Throat Dept. He has said I have "Anosmia" and it was caused by the bad case of Flu that I had, unfortunately he has also said it very unlikely that I will ever get my sense of smell back again as I would have noticed something by now and he can do nothing to help.

But it's not related in anyway to Psoriasis or my treatment, it's because I had a bad virus.
