Hi Caroline,

I do think part of the issue is I don't if I'm really honest want to be taking MTX but ive been told I can't try the biologicals that my dermatologist wants to prescribe until I've tried this first!

I hope the sun appears soon - need a walk along the coast with bracing winds off the North Sea to clear my head!

Yes Amy, unfortunately that is the common approach of the medical world.
I totally disagree with that approach, as research already found that treatment with a basically better biological or other things ( e.g. DMF) have far more effects in the long term.
Probably insurance companies are pressing this on to the dermatologists, as it is cheaper, but they have a too short term view, as in the end this approach is more expensive.

I never had any side effects at all when I was on Methotrexate, but the doctor's took me off it after I came back from the Carribean on holiday.
The reason for this was, I came off it to go on holiday, because I would be drinking, when I returned home, the treatment commenced and my Liver enzyme level went through the roof, they forgot to ask me about the Malaria tablets that I was taking !!!
Since then, they have signed me off from the hospital and not given me any more treatment.
I am now in the process of getting back to see a consultant, where I will demand that something is done.

Wasn't a big drinker (cheeky wine on the weekend) but taking MTX is making me want to drink more as I feel so pants! Lol

Folic acid, is taken to help with side affects it might be worth discussing how often and how much you take as there are a few ways, take everyday a small amount except the day of the methotrexate or higher doses the day previous and day after methotrexate or one dose on day a few days after.

Biologics from my experience is only given when all other routes have been explored so UVB and at least 2 types of oral medications and they would have to prove in affective against psoriasis, even then you have to apply for funding for biologics and undergo a variety of tests

Regarding blood tests, GP can do but if the hospital can give you there forms then the results will go to your derm, from what I remember at least one test every so often has to be done at the hospital anyway due to the type of test it is...do you have hospital close by that you can just wait for blood tests to be done? Might be worth checking

Stress doesn't help at all when I first got put on methotrexate I got so upset I went and bought myself a pack of 100 cigarettes and smoked alot!!!!! I was so scared and the drug was given to me by a GP who didn't really explain it to me at all!!!

Try to keep your chin up and I think Caroline gave great advice in writing things down it can really help get things off our mind xx

mtx can be dangerous,i would not use it cause can harm you seriously.through all this years having psoriasis i learn that best way is to use natural products,herbs and be careful about food i eat.thats really important cause we cant eat all we want and being clean of psoriais.
