I have recently started to get psoriasis in my ears which is mega itchy. I have been fiddling about with Dovobet gel on the end of a cotton bud Huh
Has anyone got any better/other ideas?

I wouldn't use Dovobet for your ears as it's a corticosteroids and not recommended for sensitive areas such as your face, Dovonex or Silkis may be a better choice.

Having said that I would try regular use of Coconut Oil as that definitely wont damage your ear in anyway.

Also I don't recommend the use of cotton buds for your ears, I got one stuck in my ear once when the bud came off. (Doctor was not happy) Blush Use your Little Finger only.

Thanks Fred

I am using Dovobet on my face, on the direction of my GP, as the Dovonex didn't work.
I take your point about the cotton buds - suppose I will have to cut the nails on my little fingers Rolleyes
The coconut oil idea does sound yummy. (Don't suppose Bounty chocolate bars count tho?) Tongue

I would check again with your doctor, if you read the leaflet that comes with Dovobet it clearly states:

Quote:
Special precautions
• Avoid use on more than 30 % of your body or using more than 15 grams
per day
• Avoid using under bandages or dressings as it increases the
absorption of the steroid
• Avoid use on large areas of damaged skin or skin folds (groin,
armpits, under breasts) as it increases the absorption of the steroid
• Avoid use on the face or genitals (sex organs) as they are very
sensitive to steroids
• Avoid excessive sunbathing, excessive use of solarium and other
forms of light treatment.

I may sound a bit paranoid, but I would hate to hear you had damaged the skin on your face.

Oh and by the way you would look a bit silly with a Bounty Bar sticking out of your ear. Big Grin

Like Fred says stay well clear of putting strong ointments in your ear!!!

I suffer with psoriasis inside my ears too, I will use olive oil in them (I don't know about others but I tend to also suffer with extra ear wax due to the extra skin so it helps keep on top of that too)

Regarding your face..............have you tried lots of Vaseline and I mean lots so if your stuck in for the night put a big blob on ..... To remove I just get a square of toilet roll and pat off excess Thumb

I have P in my ears.

It drives me nuts sometimes but I use coconut oil, a thin amount and it works a treat....... Thumb

I tried inserting a bounty bar in each ear but they melted before the coconut could take effect Confused

Right, I'm off to the padded cell Big Grin

The correct method for using steroids in you ears is to mix it with room temperature distilled water. It's never going to be completely mixed, but diluted is what you want. Hold it in your ear for five minutes twice daily. No more than 10 days in two week period. Rinse with distilled water.

I was using Dovonex scalp lotion in my ears with great success until they stopped making it... Sorry, not helpful but I am wondering if a compounding pharmacy could make it?
