(This is a family forum, eh?  Otherwise I might use stronger language).

Yes we prefer to keep it clean on the public boards. But the odd use of * in between letters would be acceptable. We understand how annoying psoriasis can be, but we do ask our members to try and self moderate as we don't want to offend our guests.

There are however places in the Members Only boards were strong language is used, for example:

Also once you have made 10 posts you can start your own journal and it's entirely up to you what you say in it. (If it's reported, I would look into it) but we ask our members to be respectful of others.

There is also another board that is hardly moderated, but you will have to find that.
