Did you use a 30 gage? I had a dog with diabetes and gave him insulin injections. It was far more comfortable for him when I used the finer needle. Injecting into fat (if you have any), using a bit of ice over the skin or warming the syringe to body temperature might also help. Wanting emla cream seems a tad wussy.
