Well hi there (again). It's been an upsy downsy last couple of months to say the least.
My partner started his teaching assistant position but is fast becoming disenchanted with it. The school he works at seems to be terribly disorganised and a bit too prone to using the 'less carrot, more stick' approach which runs counter to his own teaching practices. Plus he needs more hours as we have found that we are dipping into the redundancy money each month just to pay for basics. Frustrating.
My own plan to use my voluntary post to springboard me back into the world of work has backfired spectacularly as two flare ups and a viral infection have blighted my life over the past couple of months and I've had to give it up. I have tried to get a few hours work myself to take the pressure off but am painfully aware that a) jobs are getting scarce and b) my abilities are compromised. I had an interview on Thursday for a few hours cleaning work but ended up collapsing at school just as I dropped off our boy. :(
Which brings me onto the 'upside'.
Despite everything we managed to get away to Athens as planned during half term. My feet were quite sore (about a 4 or 5 on the scale) but I managed to get to the Parthenon. It was a slow, arduous climb. I was even beaten to the top by a guy waiting for a knee replacement, but I DID IT!!! It was spectacular and, for someone who doing the school run unscathed is a major achievement, I felt very proud of myself.
I unfortunately managed to pick up a virus on the plane journey home (hence the collapse) but it did mean I got a thorough going over at hospital. Everything, BP/ECG, kidney function, lungs etc, came back tip top. I can't tell you how relieved I am (especially about the kidney function being on cyclosporine).
Consequently I did have a quiet birthday whilst I recuperated but, apart from the job niggle, I feel positive.
Right.....shutting up now and off to catch up with the forum news.
