Welcome to the forum! The best complimentry medicine is sunshine!
There are lots of tips in the forum from diet to different lotions and potions if you want to go down the medication free route. I would suggest a trip to the doctor but that's up to you.
Have a good rummage around and if you are not baffled by the information overload you may find something that works for you.
I haven't tried olive oil but coconut oil is good!
Cheers

Yes it is difficult to spell, I added it to my Firefox spell checker. I take it you're into films. I like a good old B&W especially the Ealing Comedy's, A good Carry On, and I do like a good horror. Actually I could write a Comedy Horror using some of the members here as characters.
Oh and yes warm water is better than hot
Regards.

Putting dead sea salt or any salt in your bath water can be very good for your psoriasis and also oatmeal in the bath is supposed to be great too

Welcome!!
I use warmed olive oil on my scalp once a week, I warm it in the microwave for 30 seconds and rub it into my scalp. After an hour or so I wash it out with a mild shampoo (I personally use lush products due to their natural ingredients) like a baby shampoo. You need to leave the shampoo in for 5 minutes or so and make sure you get a great lather going as otherwise your scalp and hair will remain greasy. It certainly cuts down on the flakiness.
As for temperature of the water, I cannot abide cold/tepid water and always use hot. I also use a porridge based soap for bathing as the flakes are great exfoliators and the gluten in them coats the skin nicely.
Unfortunately our skin can become accustomed to creams and lotions of the prescription variety, and sometimes a break of 3-4 months before using it again is the only way to get over it. which obviously is not what we need when we have large red flaky areas on show every day.
I hope you find something that works for you, but as said before, Sunshine (or UVB) is the best treatment - I use a UVB bed at home and it has helped quite a bit.

Thanks to you all for welcoming me and for all the useful tips. I'll certainly try olive oil. Yes, a trip to the docs is probably called for, I need to get the scalp treatment I ran out of and the creams for the body. I still want to use complementary treatments as well - including sunshine when we get it, finally! Salt or oatmeal in the bath sounds lke a good excuse for an indulgent soak.
Thanks Fred for the links, I'll try those.
I suppose managing stress is also important - my psoriasis always flares up worse when I'm stressed - although the scalp is constant...
Cheers,
Filmbuff
