Hi kip,
It's so depressing when hands and feet are in so much pain. Dealing with this every day is so exhausting.
Don't loose hope. I too have palmoplanter psoriasis on hands and feet. Mine is seasonal. So I start early on all the thing listed. I use a hand and foot spa heat wax with lavender oil dip hands and feet 4-5 times to get a good coat. Then I use occlusion over nite to keep my feet/hands softened.I have a arsenal of things that work to push P. it into remission.
The first thing is keep hands protected especially from injury. Always use baby wipes to clean Hands it has moisturizers does not strip the oils out of UR skin. Keep UR hands and feel out of water. Use baby wipes or Cetaphill. My derm said washing in water is like washing in a chemical bath. If u can add a salt water softener and black light and filter to the water u bathe in, it will be a big help toward clearing skin from the bacteria and irritating chemicals in the water to add to P. Issues.
Wear cotton gloves all the time the dollar store has them cheap. Keep silicone glove or Dimethicone a skin protectant and moisture barrier on at all times. Amazon has it I get a pint lasts for over a year.
Suran wrap, baggies, glad sticky wrap or vinyl / latex gloves on hands and feet over a thin...thin...layer of Clobetasol for over night. Use meds 3 nights in a row with occlusion plastic wrap etc. Then the other 2 nights use the moisturizer above. Also gel gloves and boo ties heated in the microwave help moisturizers penetrate the skin layers. Coconut oil, olive oil, any oils that u have will help. I use pine tar and wrap. Works in just two nites. I get it at the....now don't laugh, feed store. I use it on my horses to lock moisture in and infectious soil critters out....of the hoves over the wet winters.
In three weeks u will see a big difference. Always protect hands and feet from infection if cracks r deep use antibiotic salve. Most of the work is in the occlusion method and done on a nightly basis. For three weeks then, stop using the Clobetasol use only moisturizer in above description. Continue to protect hands all the time gloves, gloves, gloves. It's winter so wearing gloves ou is not a bog issue . There is a wrap for P. It's like a tape used on hands and feet ask UR doc for the RX. Also Psoriasin and many OTC counter meds work well on a continuos level of use. Coal tar and pin tar have worked for centuries. See the glycerin theory online.
Purchase glycerine and non-alacohol witch hazel mix 50/50 an use continuously to help soften skin and help with inflammation. Also to stop the itching, sun burn spray works nicely for itching and burning especially with aloe Vera. They are anti inflams . Keep UR hands and feet protected at all times no rubbing from shoes.
Everthing counts the first 3 weeks u will get better and continue to remission. The trick is to use occlusion to help the medication to penetrate deeply thru the derm layers to stop the small capillary blood vessels from feeding the P and over production of skin.
I get the all over body itchiness from hell... The only thing that helps is a script for hydroxzine HCL or Atarax. I only need to take one and it shuts down the pathway for the histamines that cause the itching. It effects a different pathway of histamines in the body to stop the horrid itchy critters.
I will stop here. I hope this is not to confusing. It's worked for me since a child. The importance of inclusion is how psoriasis is eventually shut down. Small capillary blood vessels are programmed to feed the p. Skin , once they are shut down using occlusion then u will find remission.
Even use zinc on Hans and feet - Desitin . Zinc is great for P soft water with salt to soften the water is great for P. Protect hands and feet always... Never use water while hands & feet are in a P. breakout. A good moisturizer I have mention the two skin protectant and moisturizer sealers.
Take lots of Vit-D, natural sunshine and alternate meds mentioned after three weeks of occlusion stop the Clobetasol use the many other meds available OTC mentioned. Drink lots of water stay hydrated. Biggest foods not to eat cans exacerbate P. With a yeast infection is do not eat sugar. Use substitutes.
After three weeks you will be a happy camper.. True to my word it really works and will give u relief.
I think we are all glad we didn't live during the time of leaper colonies. Just to think anti biotics will help it now and antibiotics cause havoc for P. Suffers. Good to hear UR doing better. I just added my routine to give u hope and relief for those days when P. Can drive u up a wall.
Take care get better soon... No more paper cut.. Gloves gloves gloves. There are even latex gloves lined with a thin layer of felt so hands won't sweat so much. I usually poke a few holes in mine to get better air circulation. Best an ice PLZ keep UR Hans and feet out of water. Water is a Palmoplanter enemy . Soaps take out all the skin oils use glycerine soap only....
Ok I'll stop if I haven't over done it so far .... Winter is hard on P. Take care....
Then to make a long story short a lot of P. Has been also put in remission bu some of the new biological drugs . Ask UR doc what is right for u. Then study read some of the pharmacudical trials on these new bio drugs then decide for urself.
I'm done sorry of I go on and on. Glad to hear you use The occlusion method too. It really works on all types of P.
