Durng the pandemic shut down, most of 2020, I drank a glass of wine with dinner and then a bourbon before bed. It made falling asleep easy. I loved the taste, the warm feeling of relaxation, the instant sleep. But it caused waking through the night. I tried other alcoholic beverages, too, a year of exploration after not drinking for most of my life.
The small patchy area didn't seem to change for most of that year. I don't recall my skin causing noticeable problems until January 2021. Once the psoriasis became active, drinking alcohol made the patches flame red and itch more.
Since starting the Methotrexate, I'm limiting the alcohol consumption. During the past month, I've had only one whole glass of wine on one day and about 2 to 3 ounces of wine the next day (as it was a delicious Chardonnay). I also had a small serving of an Italian Sambuca. I can't find Ouzo at any of the stores up here and need an anise flavored liquor for a biscotti recipe so had to try the Sambuca.
If I weren't worried about my dear liver on the Methotrexate, I would surely enjoy that Sambuca and return to the bourbon, too, once in a while, itching be damned.
About sleep . . . I've found that avoiding alcohol and having minimal sugar during the day, gives better sleep.
