Tough one to answer. I used to be very embarrassed by it but not so much any more.
I went with "try to hide it" since I feel I'm constantly either brushing flakes off my shirt or off the chair I was sitting in. I do get embarrassed at someone's home and try to not sit on upholstered fabrics. I also don't like riding in anyone else's vehicle for the same reason. At times when I get out the seat is covered with flakes I left behind.
As far as looks goes, mine is mostly hidden since it's the neck and behind or on the ears (sometimes in front of the ears) but hair hides it so it's not really noticeable but even if it was, I'm not so embarrassed by the red patches if someone sees them. It's mostly the "shedding" that really bugs me when it comes to embarrassment.
