Hello all. Last Friday I had an illuminating experience. I got myself ready to go shopping in the morning and noticed a swollen, reddish mound, about the size of a dime under my left eye, which I had never experienced before, so I proceeded to cover it up with makeup. I went on with my day of shopping and noticed while in the changing room, that the mound was getting larger over the course of the morning. I got home and pondered what was going on.
It was lunch time, I grabbed a glass of almond milk to tide me over until I could make a salad. While I was busy putting things away and taking care of other stuff, I noticed that my eyelids started tingling, so I ran to the mirror and sure enough my eyelids were becoming red and puffy and the triangle next to my right eye was also becoming red. Now up to this point my psoriasis had substantially lessened, my eyelids were no longer red or scaly and the patch next to my eye had just a tinge of red left and was scaleless. It had been about 15-20 minutes after drinking the almond milk and those areas had become red and puffy. So, I surmised that the almond milk had caused this reaction as it was all I had so far for lunch.
Now, that same morning I had almond milk for breakfast, as I had for the week prior, so I guess my body took a little while to develop a reaction. To test my hypothesis, when I got up the next morning I checked my face. The red mound under my eye had mostly subsided in swelling and redness and the same for my eye areas. I drank a glass of almond milk by itself and again within 15 minutes or so, the tingling, redness and swelling returned.
So now I am removing almond milk from my diet. I had never drank it before this diet, but I had eaten almonds in my salads and as snacks. I decided to start drinking it on the diet as a source of calcium, so now I will probably have to go to a calcium supplement instead. :( Bummer, I liked almond milk and will miss it.
However, this "elimination diet" has convinced me it is a good testing ground to see what triggers a reaction.
As a side note, on Wednesday I will begin taking anitfungals. One of them will be coconut oil, which is a good thing as it contains substantial calories, and that will make up for the calories I will lose by removing almond milk from my daily intake. Now, I have taken coconut oil before, and it is slightly nauseating to me. I put it into a glass of warm water and gulp it down to get past the nauseating effect. Gotta suck it up and take it for the benefits.
Thanks for reading and have a great day.
