My treatment experience is a little atypical, but the drug is working as well as ever for me after four years. I have had p for over 25 years. Because you have only had it for a little while it might respond well to treatment and resolve quickly. Easy come, easy go sort of thing hopefully.

Yes, Fumaderm has it's side effects, which is by the way different per person. It is not easy but the side effects will become less.
BUT the big advantage of Fumaderm is the fact that for 70 % of the patients it will work. AND what more is that you can take the drug for very long time, it is not bad for your body like e.g. MTX.
Another thing is that the side effect, though uncomfortable, are also harmless for your body. The working substance in it, DMF, is kind of a miracle. I have written a thread about it, which you can find here Dimethylfumarates and Psoriasis.

Myself I am on a variant of it, that has a slow release factor built in, which has the effect that almost all side effects are gone. For you the only problem is that it only can be ordered in the Netherlands. Probably that is not allowed by your medical guidelines.
There is however one thing that is in your advantage if you might go this direction, and that is the CETA treaty that is just signed between the EU and Canada. (I have personally demonstrated against it) This might be a small opening for you. You can point to it and say to the derm that according to that treatment it is allowed, even a deal, to use medication from the EU.  Big Grin

Anyway, don't be too scared for the side effect, the good of DMF outweighs it by far.

I have never cut my drinking down ( I don't drink a great deal but have been known to fall over ) I don't smoke so don't know why you would have to stop that if it calms you, it seems foolish to stop unless you want to ...it will just stress you more and that will make the psoriasis even worse
Again just my opinion ..but it's your life and there has to be some enjoyment cheers

Ye, I want to keep some normal life, but still have to see the real PS derma doc and then decide where to go...I still know so little about how it develops and if any remission is available... For now I am still in the dark since anyone reacts differently on the same treatment. That is why i keep on hold any oral medications - hair loss and liver fat, and stomach disorder, and mood change (I read your link carefully, thank you very much, Jim) - i am not sure yet...
If any other options fail, i consider oral pills for sure...Rolaf
Hope you have good remission time, do you?   shake

Hi  you ask if I have good remission time, I have had psoriasis for over 50 years most of that time trying to hide it, like you I felt I couldn't holiday or dress in summer clothes. I was always covered up... I've done all the topical treatments with limited success then nearly 5 years ago I got the chance to try Fumaderm and I admit it was difficult to start with the side effects. But I have been clear of psoriasis since starting on it, it is the only thing that has worked long term for me, it's been a life changer see my journal [Group Specific]

I wish I had known about it earlier in my life. Do have a look...
There are regularly good success stories in the newsletter, and are worth looking out for Groups

svp3058 I have removed the link you had posted. We have a No Link policy here at Psoriasis Club. It's nothing against you personally the rule applies to all members.

The thread Bill was talking about is here: Fumaderm continued success

I wouldn't go for light treatment at home unless your dermatologist knows about it. Also don't waste your money on Dead Sea Salt, it only helps if you are in the Dead Sea. Any good Sea Salt will have the same effect at home, but you would be better off installing a water softener and using Amidon de Blé (wheat starch) it will give the same if not better result.

Hi SVP
Please don't be disheartened by what you read on the internet. many people including myself have taken Acitretin. Yes there are side effects and I will not lie to anyone that asks, I have suffered from several of these, peeling hands and feet, dry lips and an over production of ear wax. But in the scheme of things, non of these are as bad as having this interminable disease. The only way you will find out if you are effected is if you take it. Just remember that this medication is not a quick fix. I have heard of people being substantially cleared in 6 weeks or so. Myself I can only just claim to be at a place I would be happy to stay, not completely clear but neither am I itching for England or shedding flakes for fun. Chances are the creams they gave you will no doubt be steroid derivatives and really shouldn't be used over such a substantial coverage. There is a surface area limit per application. UV trement can be effective but may not give long term results. In all only an oral or a Bio is going to be of any real use to you. Acitretin isn't a bad place to start - there are worse.

Caroline, I cannot grasp the logic behind the slow release concept. Remember that I take a hit of 800 mg raw, and provided I pre-dose with a couple of grams of cysteine the side effects are mild. Compare this with your effort of a six tablet hit (720 mg) that did not go so well. Sorry to go off topic, but I think that the pharmacology of DMF is still quite gray.

Cheers,

Bill

All my new dear friends!
I am so thankful for sharing with me your stories and experiences - i read all of them carefully and get some knowledge about the ps that i did not have before.
I am still in shock and reading internet too much, which is pointless now since i have you. Bigarm
I am trying to accept my new condition, and it is not going so easy.
For example (ladies may understand me) - i was in pedicure salon today, and lady in the next chair started small talk with me and when she saw my rashes - she could not hide her disgust and stopped talking to me, and i fully understand her ..Thanks to the universe, my manicure lady believed me it was not contagious, and did her job as usual.
I deal with the new reality... You all know - it is hard...
My family supports me, my hubby even found a special psoriasis UV lamp, that we gonna try tomorrow, on my hands first - just for 30 seconds as instructed ( Jim did not approve this idea, but one-two tries should not harm, right?Smile)), i hope it gets better, i have to go to the office mostly every day and contact to many people - don't want them to be scared of me..
About treatment for now - high dosage of cortisone cream, don't see any improvement yet, probably it's too early, and i need to apply it to almost everywhere on me except the scalp, half of the tube is already gone, i need a barrel Smile))

Thank you all again, and I wish you all the best.
Regards,
svp

Thank you very much , i will consider this option too. What you say about cream - makes me worried, may be i should stop, too much of my skin is affected...Did you experience any hair loss, cholesterol level change and stomach reaction with Acitretin?
