Question  Sat-01-10-2016, 13:11 PM
I have just switched from Stelara to Cosentyx and the dose got me thinking about why they are so different.

For example:

Humira: 40mg twice per month.

Enbrel: 50mg per week.

Stelara: 45mg every three months (90mg if over 100Kg).

Cosentyx: 300mg monthly.

So why the big difference between brands?

Surly they are not the same basic formula but completely different in every way, they are biological but I would think only in the way they work.

Yes I get that they are different in their make up. But how do they decide what the dosage and frequency is going to be.

Do I just sit here and say I'll make mine 2 shots a month = 300mg, and you decide in your office to make yours 45mg with 1 shot every three months.

Isn't that what the trials for the drugs do. Determine what is the doses that are required to control the disease
And of course before it ever gets to the trials there are lab tests to see what cells they are blocking and no doubt how much is needed to successfully be a barrier and the length of time when it starts to fail, and when more is required . Is my best guess

Sounds like a good guess to me.

I found Stelara went up and down during the three month period. It would take a couple of weeks to get going, the middle was great but then towards the end of term it would start tailing off again.

So I wonder if Cosentyx have deliberately aimed for 1 month intervals. It would make sense to me to get a regular shot once per month. It's easier to remember, you could always stop if you picked up an infection and you don't have to inject too often.

But hang on Whisky, Gin, Vodka, Etc come in the same size and same strength, so why are bio's all different.
