Hello My name is Emma and I have been diagnosed this week. On my various searches I found your forum.

I have had this for 2 years+ and have not gone to the doctors in that time as a) I thought it was something else and b) I have been too embarrassed. Over the last few months for so it has moved to my head and it's extremely itchy and have been feeling exhausted all the time which I have put down to my job. Previously it has been confined to my unmentionables and I put it down to being overweight (front and back, thought I had Hermaroids and thrush and trying to self treat). I went to the doctors on Wednesday and had a lecture about not going sooner and the embarrassment of being examined by a male doctor and a nurse whose intake a breath showed her disgust.

I don't have an intimate relationship with my partner which does not bod well as we are supposed to be getting married and want to have more children. I work nights in a highly stressful job, long shifts and plenty of stress however I do find this very enjoyable.

My boss has forced me to go to the doctors as she was worried that I was suffering from depression (was off for 4 months following my Dad's death last year). Feel embarrassed to talk to her about this new development. I just want to cry.

Any advice you can offer would be appreciated. I want to try and change my diet and an unsure how fast or what to cut out first. I want to get better and have a better standard of life.

Thanks in advance

Hello Emma and Welcome

Don't worry you're not alone, and now you have found there are others who understand you will find it a lot easier to talk about it. First thing I would say is ask your doctor to refer you to a Dermatologist, some don't like to to early but it's your body and your right to get professional treatment.

Also talk to your parter about it and how you feel, the sooner you do this the sooner he will be able to help. maybe get him to come and have a look at the forum. He is welcome to join to if he wants

Stress is a huge factor in making psoriasis worse, and you sound like you have a good boss. so talk to her to, If she is concerned about you having depression then she will want to help you.

The best advice I would give is to accept you now have psoriasis, and although you won't like this you will probably have it for the rest of your life. However this does not mean you can't learn to live with it, or find something that will help you cope. you have made a start by coming and sharing, and if you can talk to your boss and your partner and get them on your side by educating them how to understand. That Wedding of you're s will be just fine. And I wouldn't mind a piece of cake Rolleyes

I'm sorry but I'm not one to advise you about your weight as I'm overweight myself, but I'm happy with it.  These threads may help with your diet and psoriasis, though I make no promises as I can't stick to it myself: Watch out for the Scams! / The anti-inflamatory food pyramid / Vitamin D the natural way.

Get plenty of Sunshine, Keep positive and happy, Talk about it. and you will find a huge difference. It will take time but those 3 things are the best things for helping with psoriasis.

Have a good look around the forum, and ask away. don't forget you can also chill out in the Off Topic boards. I'm the sensible one in there. Rolleyes

Regards.

Fred.

Dear Emma,

Well that is quite something that you tell us right now yet.

Fred has already given a good reply to you, is it hard to add to that even more.

So the only thing remains is a Welcome to the Forum. And to assure you that there are people around on this forum that will listen to you. Advise is difficult, psoriasis is a nasty disease.

As mentioned by Fred the Off-Topic part of the forum is quite important, it allows you to sometime have a smile and let the stress flow away.
Don't let yourself be fooled by the remark on sensibility, you'll find obscure characteristics of the forum visitors in that section

cheers,
Caroline

Hi, reading back It was a bit of a rant. Been so long keeping quiet I think I just burst. Thanks for the advice, I have done internet searches and all I could find were miracle cures with conflicting advice. I have spoken to my partner last night. It has been going on so long it has been the subject we have never spoken about as he did not want to upset me. Now we know the name of the elephant in the room we can get on with sorting the bugger out. Seems that I might have made things worse by eating the wrong things. I am working nights with our fitness and diet guru at work and I think I will open up to her. She usually has good advice on foods to eat and avoid (she should be a nutritionist).

I found the site through Caroline's food pyramid, good starting point for me as means chocolate is not completely off limits. You are right it's knowing that I am not the only one it helping. My partner has made a plan today and get some list of food together so I can do my menus (usually do this but going to be slightly different now).

Thanks for making me welcome, it's just what I needed.

Indeed Emma, I was already wondering what I had written.... :-)
But maybe I can add on the matter of things to eat and drink.
With the medication I use there is also a guideline of what to avoid and of what is probably good.
I will put a translation from Dutch below.

ADVICE ON FOOD:
The effectiveness of the psorinovotherapy is support by an advice on what and what not to eat and drink:

►AVOIDING THINGS ARE the following because of the fact they contain pyro-grape-acid or pyruvaat. This substance is in certain fruit (and skin of) like grapes and citrusfruits, zo also food and fluids that are derived from that. Avoid also eastern spices inclusive pepper and paprika, and certain Nuts.
That is for FRUITS:
Skin of grapes and citrus, so also juices and alcoholics where these are used in. (please Fred, do some redaction, translating is much more difficult than just writing).
Like Wine (all sorts), Brandy, cognac, champagne, sekt, samos, vermouth, sherry, malaga, port, orange liquor. (Sparkling or Fortified Wines)
Schillen van druiven en citrus, dus ook machinaal bereide sappen en alcoholische dranken waarin deze verwerkt zijn zoals: (Peel of citrus and grapes, also mechanically prepared juices and alcoholic beverages in which they are incorporated)
EASTERN species like:
Pepper, nutmeg, cloves, mustard, cumin, anise, cinnamon, paprika and everything where they are processed, such as ready-made spices, sausages, pâtés, soups, canned or packets, bouillon cubes, curry, sauces, mayonnaise, etc. .
NUTS:
Peanuts (and therefore peanut sauce and peanut butter) and all with peanut oil (peanut oil) processed and roasted cashew nuts, pistachio nuts, and salad oil.

►ADMITTED FOOD are the next:
DRINKS (not on the basis of grapes):
Beer, whiskey, gin, rum.
WESTERN HERBS and SPICES:
Garlic, parsley, onions, herbs (as well as saffron).
NUTS:
Coconuts, hazelnuts, walnuts and almonds
OILS:
Olive oil, corn oil, soybean oil, linseed oil and sunflower oil, fruit vinegar
AT LAST: without pepper pickles, cocktail gherkins and all not mentioned foods.

You rant as much as you want if it helps. If you are thinking of trying a diet you could always start your own thread in Natural Treatments For Psoriasis and share with others how it is going. It does help to make a note and it may help others who will follow your progress.

Also try the Psoriasis Score in the menu bar above and add it to your profile, It does feel good to change it at a later date to a lower number even if it only goes down 1 point.  Wink
