Can I have Covid vaccine with my psoriasis treatment

I think this is a question we are going to asked a lot, so I thought it would be a good idea to keep what we know in one place.

There are two types of vaccine. "Live (attenuated vaccine)" and "Dead (inactivated vaccine") currently 4 Live and 19 Dead are in the running. 0 Live and 5 Dead are in human trials, the 5 Dead vaccines are being used under emergency use in some countries.

People using Bio's or Methotrexate to treat psoriasis are advised not to take Live Vaccines, but as (at the time of writing) none of the 5 vaccines being used are Live then it should be ok to take the Covid Vaccine.

*Note: You should always check with the person prescribing your treatment.

Because of the that fact that the immune system will react to the vaccine, which is also the intention, there may be some side effects, due to this reaction. Side effects like an allergic reaction (reported with the Pfizer), pain at the location of the injection , headache, fatigue, all normal signs of the immune system that is at work.
There can be uncommon side effects. In the Netherlands those can be reported to the Lareb, a so called side-effect registering centre.
But we, psoriasis Patients can also report to PSOprotect, kind of a Lareb, but specifically for psoriasis patients.
But indeed, the most logical place to report is here on psoriasisclub ..

Not what I have read Jim. There are no problems with any psoriasis treatments, but obviously there will be the common side effects associated with the vaccine.

Having said that It would be advisable to get the go ahead from your dermatologist first.

I would have thought we will get it, I got the flu and pneumonia jab this year. I don’t think there are many live vaccines are there?

Actually though reading up it looks like the oxford vaccine might be a ‘live’ one? Not sure..

No I'm not sure, but at the moment it's not being used.

I have seen a presentation of one of the better Dutch specialists, with whom I sometimes disagree (which is kind of logical if you know me ), in the Netherlands. He has a good explanation of Covid-19 and at the end says some things about medication and the vaccines.
Over there in the end he says nothing about DMF, even while he is the supposed expert on DMF.

Made.... Yes, but perhaps much closer to how the immunesystem works.
