Reducing Acitretin Medication - Thoughts?

I forgot to update on this (my bad).....

Went to derm on 18th March and saw my consultant's registrar and he said NO to reducing the dosage of acitretin.....said pretty much what you guys said in that it might come back with a vengeance and might be more tricky to control again..... 

Went for my next appointment on 10th June and saw my consultant derm and he said YES to reducing medication and told me to have two days off a week from taking acitretin (10mg), so that's what I have done.... so far so good!!

Appreciate that this wouldn't be possible for everyone, but wanted to give it a go and see how it goes in the coming weeks/months.  I am seeing the derm nurse in early October - I only see the consultant once every 6 months.... so won't see him again until December.

Great news that's it's still working and the reduction hasn't caused any problems with psoriasis returning. I have my fingers crossed that you have found the treatment for long term clearance

Glad you have been able to reduce the med and still be clear.

I'm a fan of "less is best" when possible. Just stay aware and if you notice anything be quick to increase again I'd think. (Of course go with what your doctor says)

Thanks Kat - fingers crossed it continues!  I am with you on 'less is best' too, but I will keep vigilant and increase dosage again should anything reappear (Derm says that's fine to do if necessary).

I was lucky I had to stop straight away - no ramping off as my liver was starting to complain. Keep a close eye on it, we don't want you back on square one. Good luck on continued efficacy  

I sort of miss my peeling hands and feet, it gave me something to amuse myself with when I got bored.

Oh John -  I agree I have done really well on acitretin and I am totally mindful that it might come to bite me on the a**e (or hands and feet to be specific), if I am reducing the medication but I am really confused in general - so many people have said maybe it wasn't PPP, I just don't know.... I have questioned the derm but he says yes it was but to have absolutely no symptoms for over two years just by having PUVA for three months twice a week and then 10mg of acitretin daily I am at a loss.... But grateful at the same time.....

Maybe I just got a mild dose of PPP, who knows! Guess I will just have to see how it goes.....

You have done well wooley is it two years since starting on acetretin

Mild dose woolly ? I seem to remember you couldn't get your football boots on and certainly don't want to go there again
