Betnovate ointment/Dovobet on the face..

I know that the leaflet prescribed with betnovate and dovobet says it shouldn't be used on the face and doctors/dermatologists advise the same but I have the smallest red circle on the very end of my nose that only responds to betnovate or dovobet. I was given another cream to use on my face if I needed to but this cream does absolutely nothing.

I recall someone on here mentioning in another topic that they have used dovobet on their face without problems and that is stronger than betnovate right? Do you think it would be a problem to apply a little bit of betnovate daily? Or even every other day? If I stop using betnovate for a couple of days the spot returns.

Again, the area on my nose is tiny, I don't even have to rub the cream in to cover the area. It's about the size of one of the dots on a small dice.

It's best to follow the instructions to the letter. It's a steroid and can/will thin your skin if you're not careful also it's not recommended to use for longer than 4 weeks, and it's also a good idea to slowly cut it down as opposed to just stopping it.

Some have used it on their face, I personally wouldn't but it has to be your choice at the end of the day.

Have you tried Dovonex?

My dermatologist advised me you can use 1% hydrocortisone on the face without worry, they said to use a cotton bud to only apply to affected area. This is what my derm said to me, but you need to check with your own derm/ doc regarding using the 1%.
What was the other cream they gave you?

The issue with betnovate is the skin thinning but on the other hand if it's working it might be good to try it for a week or two and if it completely clears it may not return there. I'd probably ask the doc before trying this tactic.

I agree with the previous posts but will admit as soon as I used to get psoriasis creeping on to my forehead or I got a patch on the side of my nose. I did use steroid ointment on the places but very sparingly as I was worried about skin thinning
So it's not something I would recommend  Confused  but it's something I have done myself in the past

I'm not sure which cream is strongest, but Freds idea of trying Dovonex might be a better option as it's not steroid based

I've not tried dovonex yet, I plan to ask about it when I see my dermatologist during my next visit.. though tbh I haven't had anything work that isn't steroid based so I'm a bit skeptical about it. Anyone had better results from dovonex compared to dovobet or betnovate?

The spot on my nose has cleared completely when using the betnovate but it always comes back when I stop using it for a couple of days. I have a slightly larger patch on the side of my face that reacts exactly the same but luckily it is covered by facial hair. This patch is what the doctor perscribed the cream (that doesn't work) for, because when I saw the dermatologist in July I didn't have the spot on my nose. I have been using betnovate on this patch for a while without any problems though.

I've forgotten what the cream that was perscribed for my face is called but I will have a look tonight.

That is a milder steroid cream I believe, containing clobetasone butyrate, 0.05%

Yes it's milder, but should still be used with caution on your face and for around 4 weeks only.
