I've had psoriasis for 16 years. I've never been to a doctor for it at all due to a doctor phobia. I'm now about 75% covered. My knees to my feet are covered. My scalp is covered. My torso is covered. My arms are covered. My face is clear, hands are clear, feet are clear and that's it.

Just this summer, I've started getting new symptoms that are extremely terrifying.

Extreme burning on my legs. Almost intolerable. I started to pay close attention to area of my calves. I used some treatments to get all of the scaling off of my lower legs but the burning even got worse. Below the scaling is just thick redness so I started to try and peel that away. I uncovered something that doesn't look like psoriasis. It looks like white little dots and they are extremely painful. I sprayed some hydrogen peroxide on them and it foamed big time and burned like crazy. Eventually it started oozing puss. The pain just won't go away. At first, I was afraid that it was general pustular psoriasis which can be fatal...but the fact that the hydrogen peroxide foamed makes me think it's just some time of subcutaneous skin infection caused by the fact that I scratch constantly.

Is it possible for psoriasis scaling to scale over a skin infection? Has anybody had something so strange happen to them? I'm currently panicking due to the extreme pain. Sorry to make my introduction a complaint but it is desperation that drove me to find a community so that I could share my experience.

I appreciate you have a phobia about doctors, but psoriasis is not something to self diagnose or even treat come to that in my opinion. You could actually be making things worse, I would say bite your lip and go to a doctor.

Good point and I am on the verge. I just thought I'd see if anybody has experienced anything similar. I don't have good insurance nor do I even know where to begin to look for a doctor. I'm a truck driver and lease operator so I only am able to take a week off at a time, at most. Fixed expenses make it so I have to keep rolling. I haven't found one dermatologist that takes emergency appointments and I'm at an emergency pain level. I'm also worried about the extreme costs involved for emergency services.

Welcome to the club.... you will find everyone here friendly and helpful.

As Fred said, please get to a Doctor asap - the sooner treatment starts the better you will feel.

I have Palmar Plantar so my palms and soles of the feet are badly affected. (also some scalp plaques)
I had an infection under the Psoraisis on my feet and had to have a course of Antibiotics - so please get checked out asap.

Then you could try something over the counter, but I don't think it will help for long.

It may be worth you starting a new thread in Psoriasis And Psoriatic Arthritis Topics with your questions as some of our USA members may have more information or suggestions that could help you.

I've not known psoriasis to scale over an infection myself. It can sometimes weep but the scales will only come back when it starts drying out.

But you really must at least stop at a pharmacie whilst on your travels and ask for some advise. Skin problems can be very difficult to treat and if you get it wrong you could regret it later on and be in even more pain and even off the road.

I'm in agreement with others, it's time to bite the bullet and get to a doctor. After a couple of years and a few "dermatitis" diagnosis, my psoriasis had only worsened and by the time I was sent to a dermatologist I was diagnosed with Erythrodermic psoriasis. A bit of info:

"Erythrodermic psoriasis "throws off" the body's chemistry. This causes protein and fluid loss that can lead to severe illness. Edema (swelling from fluid retention), especially around the ankles, may develop, along with infection."

Luckily for me it wasn't as bad as it could have been but since you asked about infection I thought I would mention that you can develope infections and need to make certain that you don't have anything like that going on. I'm not suggesting that you do, only that it would be best to have it looked at.

I'm not a big fan of doctors, but psoriasis is best treated by seeing a doctor and working through finding what treatment is the best for you.

Hi Kanidana  to the club it's good that you have found us, ....... do ask questions here,  as you have already found out we are a friendly group and the advice you have had so far is good, I don't like doctors, although with me it's not a phobia, I just don't like waiting around  
It will be better for you to face your fear now, as you say it's getting intolerable....it's unlikely to clear on its own and to be honest it may get infected and then you won't have a choice.....

Don't worry about coming here and complaining, we are just glad you joined us  and most of us have had a rant about something on here .....that is the beauty of the site, you can come and moan and no one will mind in fact you will always get positive advice back.

Do let us know what you decide and come back often and talk with us, and let us know how the psoriasis is progressing

I don't know much about the system in the US, but there are quite a few members on here who might be able to advise. I hope you can sort something out soon.

Thanks, just went to a Derm today and they were about as useless as can be. Sent me out with a standard Psoriasis treatment and didn't even acknowledge the extraordinary pain I was talking about. Acted like it was normal. I can't even walk without agony. It's ended my career. I'm in too much pain to drive truck.

Hi Kanidana. Can I ask what treatment they prescribed you today ?

Seems like the guy you saw wasn't helpful and with your psoriasis being bad they should quickly move you on to new therapies
Unfortunately they seem to have a protocol to follow whereby they always start you off with creams....it might just be successful ....if not don't leave it long but explain to them it's not working they should put you on the next level if treatment
