I was on 25 mg per day.

It was difficult for me to "see" the clearing as the worse of my psoriasis was on and behind ears, scalp and back and I could only see those using a mirror (my elbows, stomach etc were mild in comparison)  so I more relied on the reduction of itchiness and scaling and just how it felt to the touch.  Another member here also was taking Acitretin the same time as me and she noticed the redness clearing first.  She had a good picture showing her progress.

Good morning all.. Seven and half weeks on acitretin and now and still results are not great .. Plaque all gone just small red spots flaring. All the redness is still there. Can anyone tell me if the Acitretin is working? I think I need a higher dose or am I expecting results too early. Look forward to hearing any advice.

Hi Danny, it would seem to be working, but I think you will have to talk to the dermatologist about increasing your dose, I'm sure as there is some movement on 20mg then if increased to for instance 30 or 35mg you would start to see a big difference....but you do need to speak with your dermatologist as there may be a reason you are only on 20mg
I would phone the dermatologist and ask the question, rather than wait till your next appointment
Good luck

Hi Danny. I think the results vary. I do still have a bit of redness behind one ear for example, but it is also the one that tends to flare back up at times. Areas that I could see clearly (stomach, elbows, face) cleared with no redness left, but those areas for me were not as bad as my ears, scalp and back. My back was very red however and it did clear with no red left behind. But each person is different so it would be difficult to say as I do know some people even after clearing say there is still some signs that they had psoriasis in that area. It does sound like it's working for you but it does go slowly.

No I'm sure the redness will fade as the psoriasis clears the redness is fresh skin and always fades to normal soon after it clears , sometimes I am left with white patches where the pigment is missing but that generally changes back to normalish

Morning all. Well week 8 now and it seems the drug has finally kicked in. Had my derm apointment yesterday and my doctor seamed very happy, kept me on 20 mg for the next three months as she didn't see any reason to up my dose. Totally clear of scaling and redness is fading although very slowly. I'll keep you all informed over the coming months Big Grin

Great news Danny, it's great when a treatment works and you can see the difference. Long may it work for you. The redness will take a while to fade as its new skin but will fade over time, here's hoping we have a good summer so you can get your skin out in shorts and tee shirts,
Thanks for updating us. Your input is very helpful and this thread has already had over 500 views so keep the updates coming please  Thumb

Great news!  I'm glad it's working for you and look forward to your updates.

I'm glad the redness is going away, Jim explained that process very well. As I said, I still have redness but I do still get patches in that area (I'm off Acitretin and it hasn't been bad enough for me to go back on it) so that would explain why my skin still is red there.
