Hi all,
I'm obviously new to this interesting forum.
I've had mild psoriasis for over 30 years.
I got mild PsA 5 years ago but has got worse lately.
I have just started methotrexate last week.
After reading some other posts I don't think I have to much to worry about.
My psoriasis is mild but the PsA is really starting to affect my work (I'm a tradesman with lots of lifting).
Good luck to everyone looking for a pain free life.

Hi Pec and a big welcome to the club sadly I'm not from New Zealand but envy you living there it's on my wish list as I think it's a beautiful unspoilt country..
I'm glad you got to find us
. You will find us a small happy band of psoriasis sufferers here happy to exchange views on the various treatments

I hope the methotrexate works for you it certainly did for me when I was on it although I don't have PsA just plain old psoriasis
I'm sure your doctor will keep a close watch on your blood levels and as long as they are good you should be fine..... Are you also going to take folic acid as I understand it's quite important with methotrexate.
I really hope it works for you .

Welcome to the P. Club. What u wrote could be my P. Description. PSA IS nasty when u use UR hands for a living. It hasn't stopped me, just slowed me a little. I have adjusted to doing what I need to do in slightly different ways by being mindful of each task. A good bio with MTX thEre R MANY ONLINE ASK UR DOC can help stop the damage from PSA.

I still do everything even open those darn bottle screw caps. ASk UR doc for PT to keep UR hands strengthened. Bone damgage is our biggest hurdle. Keeping track , x -rays , heat treatments, meds and up to date info can keep u on top on UR game.

Nice to hear you find it interesting, you will find a very friendly bunch on here so don't hesitate to dive on in.

Unfortunately Psoriatic Arthritis will affect your work but it can be managed, I'm not a fan of Methotrexate myself but some say it can help with psoriatic arthritis.

Re your question about other members from New Zealand. I've looked through the database and there are two others that have it in their profile.

Kiwi joined and made one post in 2012 but not been back since.

[Group Specific] joined 2 months ago but not posted yet.

I seem to remember their are a couple of others, but as they don't have it their profile it would be wrong of me to tell you who they are.

Once you have made 5 posts you can use the PM system so it may be worth a try to the two above.

Hope you hang around a bit longer, we could do with a few more from your part of the world to give a good mix.

yes Jimi - I do also take folic acid, methotrexate on fridays folic acid on monday with six weekly blood checks

Quest4Cure - my PsA first started when i couldn't move some of my fingers on my left hand with out serious pain, this made work almost impossible but I changed my diet and hand some physiotherapy and my fingers are good now.

Welcome to the forum.

If you read my posts then I am not so into MTX, I would never use it anymore.
So perhaps it may be something that you need to investigate a little more. There are better alternatives.

Don't know anybody from New Zealand on the forum, but you could contact Bill, he is from Australia, that is close with you right?

Anyway, have fun, don't hesitate to put questions, there is always someone to answer.

I had my second dose of MTX on friday night. No real side effects so far, just woke early and had trouble getting back to sleep, had a very dry mouth and lips with a slight headache.
Felt tired most the next day again with slight headache. (that could be from lack of sleep)
Only taking 10 mg of MTX at this stage, I go onto 20 mg in two weeks time

Good news Pek I'm glad you aren't getting side effects let's hope you don't , it's to early to see any change in your psoriasis yet or improvements in your joints. I will live in hope that it will start to work soon
