Question: Is it common that people with psoriasis suffer from more tiredness than people without psoriasis?
A friend of mine also has a little psoriasis, but is often quite tired. Now she read in a newspaper, that research suggests that psoriasis sufferers also suffer from tiredness.

Does anybody recognizes that?

I don't recognize it. I am never tired. Cool

Yes it's common in people with Psoriasis I think more so in people with Psoriatic Arthritis, Fatigue often occurs when there is inflammation in the body. Inflammation is linked with the release of powerful chemicals. These include:
  • Inflammatory proteins which increase the stickiness of blood platelets.
  • Proteins which bind to antibodies and circulate as immune complexes
  • Immune system chemicals that help immune cells communicate with each other such as interleukins, especially interleukin 1.

I'm not always tired but have found the worse the psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis the more tied I feel, my dermatologist always asks me how tired I have been feeling.

There is a slightly related thread: Psoriasis and Sleep Apnea study I have this too occasionally.

Not me Caroline I'm never tired
I have never needed a great amount of sleep since I was a teenager, then I used to sleep a lot
Since getting psoriasis I have not noticed any difference. It would be interesting to hear others on the subject Thumb

Fred is correct. You might want to add feeling sick to the list. I vomit my guts out whenot my PsA flares. I can't find a doctor to admit to it.

Also, you might want to note that TNF alpha i is currently being researched for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

That's interesting, I have found I feel sick when the PsA is going for it. I always put it down to just feeling down. Confused

I thought I had it bad with psoriasis it sounds like psoriatic arthritis is a hell of a lot worse. I only ever have to worry about my skin, whereas you with Psa have to put up with tiredness, joint problems, and sickness as well as scaly skin
Although users of dimethyl fumerates on the forum say they help the condition

I hope you stay that way Jim, I don't wish psoriasis on you but psoriatic arthritis is a lot lot worse than psoriasis. It completely stopped me moving, my whole body just locked up. I'm not as bad as I have been in the past, but when it hits it hurts like hell and totally ruins your life.

Indeed Jim, I don't have any problem with the condition. I am one of the fittest in spinning class. A slight limitation on walking, after 12 km my feet begin to hurt.
In no way I feel the symptoms that Fred is telling about the way he is locked up..

Good I'm pleased to hear it Caroline I hope it keeps working for both of us ( and anyone else using it)

I'm not locked up now, only the odd twinge when it's damp thanks to my dermatologist.

I was super fit at Caroline's age apart from the odd bit of PsA, then one day in my early 50s it just shut me down big time.

So watch out anyone with psoriasis.
