"Immunosuppression can increase risk of skin cancer with sun exposure.  nbUVB is a narrow wavelength of light with less risk, however, we will use the lowest dose and limit duration and stop once clear since you are on the TNF-alpha inhibitor."  I found this reassuring to read in the notes.

I'm hopeful.  Thanks for your reassurances that this will likely work and has worked for you.  The lightest patches seem to be responding, already.  Stubborn patches, last night, began itching like mad and were raised and sore.  I think it is due to worry and/or stress as former husband is scheduled for surgery today, and I am concerned for him.  This is a really strange condition, this psoriasis.

That is not the lowest dose Forest.
In the Dermasun home appliances they use a much more lower dose, that even can be used every day and long term. Research here in Amsterdam UMC has shown that it works for those who are sensitive for it. (We all are different) .

I've paid the bill for the light therapy I've used:

Insurance was billed $328 per session.
Insurance paid $262.13 per session.
I paid $65.87 per session.

The cost is too high to continue.  I'll discuss with dermatologist at February appointment.

That's a crazy amount and the effects are always short term so you will be going back again and again . Yes ask the dermatologist for a systemic treatment either tablet or injection or look towards buying your own UV lamp to do it at home . But if you choose that course be very careful not to exceed the recommended doses

That could definitely add up! If I recall when I started the light therapy I was going like 3 times per week. I didn't have to pay for mine however so it was worth trying.

That is why I mentioned this Jim. The dutch article on low doses lichttherapy. It was published in a magazine of the Dutch psoriasis association.

Following a bit clumsy translation, by Google Translate.

Traditional light therapy versus maintenance therapy
Recently retired biophysicist Frank ******
has during his working
much research has been done. Last year he and dermatologist Peter ******
Did a literature review on light therapy. What were their findings?

Frank starts the conversation with
to tell you that he has already
has been involved in
look for light therapy. 'Initiate,
together with Stan *****
2. Stan is a
open minded dermatologist who likes
looking at new ideas. Guidelines,
e.g. for psoriasis, indicate
which treatments are scientific
proven and therefore preferable
must be prescribed. But
that doesn't mean there aren't others
treatments are possible.
"In 2003 Stan and I were approached
by two TU Delft students who
Had a lamp for the shower
developed. They came to our
clinic with a small grant of 2500
euros from the Ministry of the Economy
sche Business to research
the efficacy and safety of those
lamp. That was just when
Stan and I got interested
in vitamin D. So we thought: let's go
let's see if that lamp helps with the
production of vitamin D in the body
"Initially we have together
with dermatologists from the VU in
Amsterdam, namely Sylvie **** and
Thomas **** who researched
among people with sun allergies. It
it is known that those people with habituated
ning therapy can be treated
turn into. The skin is then hardened against
UV radiation. The lamp was very effective
and the patients were very happy
along. They no longer had to leave the house
for their treatment.'
Psoriasis
'At a certain point, the invest-
tar, whose wife had psoriasis, the
further develop lamp as a medical
application. After hearing stories
of people with psoriasis who reported
that their skin had become very clean,
I have together with Stan and dermatologists
of the VU made preparations
for an investigation. After that there is in
Amsterdam and Leiden six months
researched home treatment
with a dose of UV light that significantly
is lower than the dose given by conventional
quick light therapy in the hospital or
day treatment center is given.
It appeared to work very well.

It is about light therapy… or am I wrong?
This research is about light therapy, only low dose every day. It is an alternative to standard light therapy.

Your answer is not about your personal experience in my opinion and is just saying something from another website and could be seen by some as promoting.  Whistle

I have used this low dose therapy, it is in my shower, so it really is my personal experience.

It is not a promotion it is mentioning a different possibility, based on research that has been executed and I don’t mention a name . Thinking out of the standard box that standard medicine follows with their standard light therapy. It is an alternative possibility.

I'll leave it there, but I don't think this thread is helping a new member.
