What is your daily skin care regimen?  Is it different depending on the season being winter or summer?  As it gets colder here, the heater is on, and the air inside the house is dryer.  Will that make the psoriasis worse?

Not a lot really, but I do use coconut oil every day. Not all over the body, but on the parts where I have or have had psoriasis.

As for what makes it worse ..................................... I've given up trying to work that one out.

I'm afraid I don't look after my skin as much as I maybe should ...I don't have a regime as such but I do use coconut oil on my legs most days as they are the parts of me that seem dry without some moisturiser

I have been clear of psoriasis now for around 9 years but when I had it in the past I only used prescribed steroids on the patches of psoriasis and was prescribed double base moisturiser which I never used. That was before I found this forum and learned more about psoriasis in my first month here than I had the rest of my adult life

I use Aveeno on the driest patches and on my face. I don’t personally get on with coconut oil though it tastes lovely Smile
Yes, I find my skin always gets a little bit worse in the autumn/ winter. I’m not sure if it’s to do with the heating or possibly just getting less daylight.

Mrs Fred uses Aveeno and says it works well for dry skin.

Thanks for the replies.  I'm trying to figure this out and, like Jim, have learned more from this forum than from my brief visit with the dermatologist.  In years past, a doctor would point out, "Your skin is dry."  Never a mention of what to do about it.  Just a statement.  I'm not the brightest bulb in the string of lights.  I didn't pick up on the need to care for my skin, to pay attention to dryness.

When I don't use any moisturizer, the itching seems worse.  On some days, I use the unrefined coconut oil (that has truly helped my scalp but is cumbersome to wash out) and other days a Cetaphil cream, which is heavy and also seems to help a bit.  Now, I'm using either coconut oil or Cetaphil cream everywhere with the exception of face and genital.  I use a lotion on my face and over-the-counter cortisone, rarely, on genitals.  (Why must this appear there!?!)

I have wondered about the absorption of these, especially whatever chemicals are in the Cetaphil and how that may detrimentally affect health, but the patches and itching seem to be a higher level of discomfort than the worry over absorbing questionable chemicals.

I'm using the steroid ointments as sparingly as possible and only once a day, now.  Yet, I suspect they contribute, somehow, to the spreading of patches.

Ahhh cetaphil ingredients
Cetaphil cleanser contains water, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearyl alcohol, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben

The not so good things are the 3 parabens which I have always tried to avoid Thumb

I generally use two different moisturizers.
A good dose of Cetraben on my legs every day as these are the worst for Ps. It is a little greasy but keeps my legs happy all day. Normally.

Most nights I use Dermol, it sinks in easily isn't as greasy so nightware/bedding doesn't cling.

If I get a breakout I have also used Dermol slapped on nice and thick before I get in the shower instead of soap so showering doesn't dry the skin out exacerbating the itchiness.

I'm not too good when it comes to putting cream on....I forget most of the time but one that I found was soothing, non greasy and gets absorbed fast is Gold Bond Ultimate.

I try to put some before going to bed to relieve the itchiness.
