Hello All,

I have had Psoriasis in one form or another since I was about 5 years old.  Back then, it was on my ankles.  I went away after several years.  Then in my early teens, I got it on my knees for several years before it went away.  Then in my mid twenties I got it on my knuckles and have had it for several years.  I am not 57 and about 4 years ago I started getting it on the side of one of my fingers and now the palm of my right had, unfortunately I am right handed.  I have been dealing with it and hoping it would disappear after a couple of years but it has been getting larger and larger.  Up until a few weeks ago the fold lines of my hand did not have plaques.  But then they started getting it.  Now my entire palm and the skin will crack in those folds.  As some of y'all know, that is pretty painful.  I cannot do much around the yard anymore because of it.  Every time someone wants to shake my hand I really hate it.  I really wish that social norm would just go away.  So the past two weeks I started taing Glutamine and using Coal Tar.

Hello g137556s, (first thought it was leetspeek),

Welcome to Psoriasisclub.

Psoriasis can be on nasty places. No one easily would expect that on the hands it would be so inconvenient as in your situation, but I understand it completely.
Do you have an approach in mind in dealing with it?
Did you already use more serious medication?

Maybe someone kicks in with experience on this side of Psoriasis.

Make yourself comfortable over here at the club.

Cheers,
Caroline

Welcome g,

I have not had ppp either, but I have been extensively covered with psoriasis for many years. You might be able to try your own version of Goeckerman therapy. From what I have read it can be very hard to manage, with some requiring combined therapies including biologics. Still, a small few claim success with diet and simple therapies.

Good luck.

Hi and a big welcome to the club  Welcome  it sounds as if it's been creeping up on you over the years which is very unfortunate, it's not something I have had. I have the ordinary pustular psoriasis. I do wonder have you seen a proper dermatologist who has a range of treatments for the disease and should be able to give something to make life more bearable

Have you used a good virgin coconut oil as a moisturiser, it's cheap effective and might stop the cracking plus you can pick it up at your grocery store

I wish you luck and hope you get some answers here, and I will put it out in our next newsletter, which if you want to subscribe to as it's free to all members just click Groups if you wish and then click on join group  Thumb

Thank you all for the replies and the encouragement.

Caroline, my approach up until recently has been to keep it moisturized and hope it goes away.  Lately I have been using Coal Tar and Salicylic acid creams.  I am also taking large amounts of Glutamine.  Been doing that for a couple of weeks with little improvement.  But I know it takes a while.  The ID "G137556s" is one that I was assigned years ago when I worked for the banks of the Northern hemisphere.  I have been using it everywhere since then.

Bill, I googled the Goeckerman therapy.  Looks very promising.  I will start sunning my palms along with the Coal Tar.  Thanks for the tip.

Fred, Unfortunately I am self employed.  In America self employment means no insurance.  The drugs you mentioned are very expensive.  Plus the side effects that I have read from others on this site are pretty scary.  I am trying the natural approach as much as possible.  The link you provided is interesting because I have already been on a Keto diet for awhile.  Prior to that I went Vegan for a year and a half.  This bout started shortly after I went Vegan.  The thing is, my diet has totally changed so food triggers are unlikely.

Jimi, Yes, I tried Coconut oil.  It works pretty good.  My wife has been on a quest for a cure.  She has bought about everything you can imagine that is available over the counter.  The best thing so far is a concoction she made using a combination of Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil and Shea Butter mixed together.  It is sticky and absorbs slowly but is long lasting.

I look forward to working with y;all!

Good for you, g. Just don't burn them or your ppp will get worse (coal tar will sensitise your skin to sunlight). Disposable gloves for occlusion may help as well. I look forward to hearing how you go.

Cheers

Welcome G!

Even without insurance, there are quite a bit of programs available from the companies making the drugs. I have found out that they ARE actually available to a LOT more people than I expected here in the US. I'd recommend asking questions here, researching the different treatments and then contacting the company and asking questions. Some do require you to be on a commercial insurance before being eligible for certain programs but I do believe there are programs also for no insurance. Something to check into if you don't find relief from a non prescription source.

I hope things improve and glad that you found your way here. It's a GREAT place to be with people who are helpful and understand what you're going through.
