Hello from newbie ItchyTeri!!
Just wanted to pop by and say 'Hi' to all fellow sufferers lurking here.
I only found this group today. I've not been one to join groups regarding my skin condition, but thought I might just as well.
I've had Psoriasis for many years now. Always had dry skin even as a teenager, with mild eczema to start with. The Psoriasis kicked in with childbirth, just one weird spot on the leg to start with, which grew and spread and got worse and worse as time went on.
I've used various cremes and ointments over the years. None of which has cleared my skin up. Some worked better than others just to hold it in check, but as one patch starts to clear, many more spots break through. It's an endless cycle.
A few years ago I got sent for Photo Therapy - what a godsend!!  I cleared up and was FREE - but only for a while. A couple of weeks later, and here we go again...Only Worse than before. Nothing I do seems to hit the mark.
I've had three sessions in the light box up to now. Just been referred for another session, but won't get to that one for at least a year due to crappy waiting times. Only one booth here where I live, unless I wanted to travel 60 miles to the next one.

Hello Teri   to Psoriasis Club.

Good to see you decided to join, it can take courage to talk to others especially on a forum but you find a friendly bunch always willing to listen and share information. We are all just people like you living with psoriasis, we have no advertising or sponsors and you will never be asked for a donation as we don't accept any. so just dive on in and enjoy.

Don't hesitate to start another thread in Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis if you wish about your treatment, it's a good way of monitoring your progress and your input could help others.

Hi Teri and    to the club, as Fred says we are a friendly group of sufferers sharing experiences of their frustrating disease, I hope you enjoy your time with us as there is a wealth of knowledge about psoriasis and the various treatments.
The one thing I would advise is that you contact the dermatologist and tell them the light therapy is not giving you lasting clearance, tell them it's affecting your quality of life. Tell them you have done research and are worried about skin cancer with uv treatment,  tell them you have read of prescribed treatments that could give you clearance and allow you to start living life again  Oral Treatments For Psoriasis

Unfortunately it seems that they will fob you off for years on less than satisfactory treatments unless you can have a conversation with them and ask why you can't go to an effective treatment, but go armed with knowledge of what is availabe which you can see in the above link as the next step is likely to be an oral treatment .

After reading your introduction Teri, I heartily recommend coconut oil. It's brilliant as a moisturiser and it has natural healing properties too

Hi Teri,

Welcome to Psoriasisclub.

Very good of you to take the step and join in.
Do you only have Psoriasis ? No Psoriactic Arthritis ? That at least is something.
And there is a bit of good news, as you have had eczema in your childhood there is a smaller chance that your Psoriasis will change into Psoriactic Arthritis. I will explain that later in a different thread, so watch what is coming.

I am totally with Jim in the fact that the light treatment will not give you a lasting effect, it will always come back and in between your skin will wear out. To my idea... avoid it, so that you can have some normal sunshine on the beach. There are enough treatment available that work far better than light treatment and will save your skin.

Look around at what you need in your discussion with your dermatologist. And if you need help please just ask. We can always be found in the off topic section where the bar resides.

Hi Teri and welcome to our club 


Same hoops to jump through I am afraid. They will always try to max out  the UV  and topical before they hit the good stuff. It sounds as though you have the same results with UV as me. A bit of UV does wonders but it doesn't last. My last session was the UVa where you take a tablet to make you more sensitive. Supposed to be better but it failed into the 8th week. There will be something out there that will hit the mark but sadly there are all these lovely NHS hoops to jump through first.
