Welcome to psoriasisclub  

I am also a previous user of DMF. And indeed the flushing is normal (and basically innocent), but it seems very heavy when I read your comments.
With me it normally lasted between 20 and 30 minutes by the way, and over my whole body. It started tickling in my head and then I became very warm and red while this sensation went down over my body. After a while then my head started to cool down again and the rest of my body followed. I was on a 5x120 dose.

The advice that Jim and and Bill are giving you is correct. Take it with a good meal and end that with something slimey like yoghurt. I am stunned by the advice of your pharmacist  
The trick of the aspirin is rather new, I have not tried it myself, it is originally from Maryam.

I wish you very much luck with DMF, cause if it works for you then you will have an excellent medication, which can work for a long time.

The aspirin trick is actually not from me. It can be found in the leaflet from Tecfidera and also in the Dutch guidelines for dermatology

Hi All


Been a while since I was on but have noticed something new and wondering if it is a side effect or something I need to go back to the doctor for. 

I have a feeling of being full  and bloated pretty much 24/7 then sporadically throughout the day abdominal cramps. It has been going on for over a month.

I am still flushing at least once a week, from head to toe. It also comes with cramps and an upset stomach.

Just wondering if these are all side effects or something I should make an appointment with the doc about.

PS meant to add... my Liver function test has been coming back very slightly abnormal and I have been referred on to the 'liver department'. Though they said I probably won't have an appointment for a year.
Not sure if the side effects are linked but thought I should mention it!

Hi meee nice to see you back
I recognise the flushing and the cramps ( although I haven’t had more than mild flushing for years now) but have never myself had bloating
The liver should be able to be monitored on blood tests and perhaps reduce your dose to bring things back into line
But I would have a word with the dermatologist and tell him. But usually with Fumaderm reducing the dose gives time for blood and liver function to normalise

Had never seen it as a side effect but thought I would just put it out there in case. Don't like annoying the doctors if I can avoid it.

Will contact the doc tomorrow!

Hi Meee,

There is a comorbidity link between people with Psoriasis and the liver. This according to recent promotion research on a large population of Psoriasis sufferers in the Netherlands.

What also is the case with Fumaderm is that it contains MEF (MonoEthylFumarate) and DMF(DiMethylFumarate). MEF is 1) useless, it has no effect on Psoriasis whatever, 2) it is toxic for liver and kidneys.
You can ask your derm to switch you from Fumaderm to Skilarence so you can get at least rid of the MEF.
And then see.

Furthermore, yes there are side effects in the intestines possible, they are not really serious as I myself experienced. Flushes will stay, not often but sometimes.
They found a strange side effect of the flushes and that is that is cures meunieres disease, because the flush has the effect of much better through bleeding also in the ears.

Hi Meee,

I have found that taking n-acetyl cysteine (NAC) at least an hour before dosing alleviates any gastric upset for me. I take 830mg doses of dimethyl fumarate 98% pure crystals. This quantity would be very hard going without the NAC. I hope things settle for you.
