Bacterial Infections

Went to the rheum Tuesday,

My skin has cracks in it ...which has happened for years.. He said I could get a bacterial infection. If anyone has had that occur would they please, time permitting, send me a PM.

I am curious to know more besides a web article. I did not like seeing the list of co-occuring things for P and PA on the Webex from NPO. It is hard enough to accept the skin condition, I dislike the word disease....In my ignorance, I like to believe a disease is something you catch.

I am not subscribing or being hypervigilant about waiting for all the possible health conditions that I might get. If I chose to catastrophize I would never leave the house and be agoraphobic.

You can get bacterial infection with psoriasis although it's not something that often happens. If you keep the open sores clean and away from sources of bacteria you should be OK.

When I had the veins removed in my legs I got an infection which they say could have been caused by the psoriasis. It could be true as the flakes are dead skin after all But I wouldn't let it worry you to much, I have cleaned out my chickens, worked in the garden, serviced the car, Etc without any problems. Just be sensible if you get a cut or graze treat it with an antiseptic (I use Betadine) and make sure you have your Tetanus injections up to date.

Your chances of getting an infection are low, so don't let it worry you. On a side note if you do happen to get an infection and are prescribed antibiotics. you should notify your doctor if taking Biological treatments.

I was confused NPO with NPF. I listened btw way to a webcast by NPF.

I appreciate the Natropathic school in Portland Oregon or the Steiner school of thought; I am smoked on purism; yoga; guided meditation; elimiation diets, supplements, breathing, colonics, starving, fish oil, eating card board, aruyvedic medicine, east, western Chinese , Korean medicine, accupuncture, rolfing, kinesiology, voodoo and UVB.
Ironically, a Shaman from Peru did something and it worked.. great he went home to Peru and 3 months later my spots came back.
I start remicade in two weeks...Lets hope it works.

Good luck with the Remicade it works well. take a book or MP3 player with you and be prepared for a a few hours lazing around.

I hate it when the docs try and scare us like that!
I have cracks that bleed on my hands and even though I am somewhat a tomboy and I am always handling rusty dirty stuff I have never had an infection.
I use gold bond hand sanitizer because it doesn't burn like the others.
Like Fred said....don't worry to much about it. Just don't go barefoot when your feet are bad.
