You're welcome I'm a great lover of the drug as the first thing to give me long term clearance in all my adult life
I'm on 5 tablets a day ...I take 3 in the morning with my breakfast and 2 in the evening with my evening meal

I was on 4 a day but upped it to five to control the psoriatic arthritis

One member here Mateychuck maintains on One tablet a day Fumaderm continued success...so we are all different and manage on different doses  Thumb

Hi and welcome, Sophia.

In terms of reducing the gastric side effects, I second Jim in advising food and plenty of fluids, my preference being milk. I also supplement with cysteine as I believe that it reduces the gastric side effects. I have no evidence for this other than it being my own experience, but I have a suspicion that it works by enabling the body to produce more glutathione. By the way, on smaller doses you can expect the side effects to ameliorate over a few months, so you might also be able to tough it out. Be wary of antacids. I tried them but got a rebound reflux with them.

Good luck,

Bill

I'm sure Bill will comment in due course

But I would say yes it will work but maybe a bit slower. Yes drop back to where you were comfortable and increase at a slower rate

There are others here who have been kept on low doses for weeks before increasing, so from what I've read ...it's safe to drop back ....and yes it won't affect the efficacy
Good luck and keep us posted

That will be fine ....and if you are tolerating it well after a while increase by one ...if the nausea gets bad and your clearing ...then drop back again...your body will get used to it, the side effects are an indication that it's working and as they diminish it shows your body is accepting the drug ....that's the way I view it......after a while you will just get flushes which aren't unpleasant I don't even notice them now

Stick with it you're probably over the worst Thumb

Hi Sophia,

Yes, like Jim I think that you should cut back on your dosage. Even if the lower dose is insufficient you still need time for your gut to settle. Longer term you need to be reducing your disease. If you can get your disease right down with DMF it is generally the case that you will be able to maintain yourself on a lower dosage. One member, William Mateychuck, maintains his clearance with a single 120 mg dose every third day.

While I have the belief that with DMF you have to hit the disease hard and fast, you still have to maintain your health and quality of life. Think of a dose reduction as a tactical retreat. I have no hesitation in missing the odd dose if I dont feel up to it.

Cheers,

Bill

I would add that you can also combine DMF with topicals or light therapy, and if you can swim in salt water that will help also. I found that sun baking made my drug more effective for me. I suspect it also caused a low lymphocyte count, so I tend to avoid sunlight like a vampire. If your cell count is good and you are monitored it might be worth a shot.

Cheers,

Bill
