Well hi folks.  A forum for everything!!!

So, how did I find myself here?

I'm in my 50's and had psoriasis since about 21.  Started slowly, head, lugs and legs.  Got all the potions and lotions and eventually light treatment in a half barrel for legs only.

I eventaully got more bits, some joined together, some on injury sites like voluntary psoriasis biopsies!!!

Too much light and started the biological stuff.  One put my cholesterol up, meathatraxate made me sick so started injecting, that eventually mae me depressed (self diagnosis) but when you fall out with a cup of coffee and start swearing at it (plus other things) it's time to review meds.

Now on fumaderm.

There might be some side effects!     You're no' kidding Batman Cool

Was up to 270mg daiiy, 99% reduction, 30mg a day maintenance dose for over a year, increased SLOWLY recently to 120mg in the morning.

HOT FLUSHES are killing me.  Even on 30mg/daily.

I'll post looking for HOT FLUSH relief elsewhere.

Nice to find this place.

ATB.

Hello Whabursttheba  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Yes there is a forum for everything, but we are special as we are not money driven.  Smile

Are you sure the Bio treatments raised your cholesterol? I have never heard of this and cholesterol can go up and down in anyone.

I'll leave the DMF gang to talk to you about Fumaderm. But just dive on in as you will find a friendly bunch of people here.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Fred.    Thanks for that and the welcome.  I can't remember the name of the first tablet but raised cholesterol was a side effect and it went up for me quickly.

Looking forward to some words (or paragraphs) of wisdom on DMF flushes.  Was camping last night, 5 degrees C and had to sit up with nothing on for 45mins until flush passed.  Not a happy bunny.

Hi there and  Welcome to a great place to talk about the disease we have all been blessed with

You have been through the mill with treatments, but I must say I'm glad you have stumbled onto us and are using Fumaderm .......I hope you can stick with it because in my mind it's a great drug that's given me the best 5 clear years of my adult life .......the side effects you are experiencing eased off for me after a few weeks I now get the odd hot flush which isn't unpleasant .....

I don't know what to suggest to reduce the flushing apart from reducing the dose, but you are already down to 30mg a day does that keep you clear? I am on 600mg a day (5 tablets )
Do the flushes last long ...for me they were short lived about half an hour each

Do let us know if you find a way to ease the flushing
Jim

Oh I misunderstood you. The oral treatments are not what I call Bio treatments. The bio treatments are by injection under the skin, that is why I questioned it.

Are you taking your tablet with plenty of fluids? And are you taking it with meals? Have you tried taking it at a different time of day?

Edit ......could it have been Cyclosporine that caused high cholesterol ?

Thanks folks.

Sorry, I thought oral and injected were bio.  Neotigisan??  I think that was the one that boosted by cholesterol.

Just cooled down after a topper.  Body completely red like prickly heat.....

I've been on DMF for about 18 months.  Going up the doses was difficult. At one point I managed 9 times on the toilet in one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   It was like sea sickness out my bum (sorry if you went visual there Wink )

I got clear and have been on 30mg a day for about a year.

During that year I still got flushes but not as many, and didn't have to get up during the night.

Take tablets at 0730hrs, probably with NOT ENOUGH water!!!!!!

My favourite flush time is 0430hrs.

PLAN A.
Okay, up my water intake throughout the day and more especially in the morning.

Many thanks again.

Hi  Whabursttheba and welcome to the club. It was probably Acitretin you started on its notorious for raising  Cholesterol amongst other side effects. I have a close personal understanding with most of them. Not got on to Fumaderm yet but chances are it will be on my hit list in years to come. Good that you found us, there is a wealth of information on here and Fred keeps us all safe from the charlatans and snake oil salesmen. Ask almost anything you like I'm pretty sure there will be somebody on to answer or poi t you in the right direction.

Yes up your fluid is a start, I always take a fair bit of fluid through the day and always take with my meal,
Usually the side effects hit around 6 hours after the tablets ...so it's strange that taking your tablet then the flush takes so long to appear.... I can't think of anything else although I'm sure there will be other DMF users with ideas how to minimise the side effects ....
Good luck Thumb

Just read your post again ....so it was neotigisan ( Acetretin) that upped your cholesterol, has it returned to normal now?
