Hello Gloria,

Welcome to Psoriasisclub. Great that you found us.
We are an international group of P-sufferers who are making the best of our situation and exchange our experiences over here.

Stelara is a very good medication assuming it will work for you. We have some experience experts over here and I expect they wiill soon kick in to tell you something about it and may have some advice on the itching.
A lot of medications do have this effect in the beginning of the treatment.

Have fun with us.
Caroline

Hello Gloria  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I was on Stelara for over 6 years, it's a great treatment and you will be surprised how quick it starts working.

In fact that is why you are getting the itch, it's the psoriasis healing and that is a good sign. And like TL said "It does subside" and eventualy will go. If it's really driving you mad try some virgin coconut oil or and ice pack.

As for what you should avoid: Nothing much really, just carry on your normal life. Try and avoid colds and flu, but that's next to impossible. If you do get it there is a small chance it may linger a little longer till your body gets used to Stelara.

Now for the best bit. What should you start doing?
#1 Get ready to say goodbye to the flakes.
#2 Walk around with a very big grin on your face.
#3 Enjoy your life again.

There are some things to watch out for and they are listed here: Stelara (ustekinumab) But not many people have problems, and if they do they usually get used to it. I used to feel a slight flu like feeling after my shot, but after a a few months I never noticed it any more.

Good luck with your journey and don't hesitate to start a thread in Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis to share your experience, it's a good way of keeping track of your progress and your information could help others.

If you're bored and want something to do I have two threads about my use of Stelara.

Stelara 16 Months On.
Stelara round two

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Gloria and welcome to the club, I have been on Stelara for around 5 years now and for me it has been a life saver , I was covered in P and after the first injection nothing much happened then after the second injection at 4 weeks I started to clear and by the time I had the 3rd injection at 12 weeks I was 99% clear. The only side effects I have had has been fatigue for a while after the injection but apart from that I have been fine though it is worth noting that everyone is different and what works for one does not necessarily give the same output for someone else and that goes for side effects as well .
Have a good look around and you will find more information on here about P and PsA than anywhere that I have come across , Fred has done a great job and we owe him a lot.
Ask any question that you want and you will get answers from the inmates on here who have the problems so you will get truthful answers not theory from books by health so called professionals who have no experience of the problems. All the inmates on here are barmy apart from the odd one like me and I am very serious , it is worth noting that nobody on here will try to sell you anything at all as we are all in the same boat and not like some of the sites I could mention which are full of so called experts selling expensive rubbish that does not work.
All the best for your treatment and have a good look around but watch out for the bear.

Hi Gloria Welcome to the club, as you can see from the replies you have recieved we are a very friendly group, offering support and advice from personal experience...

I have not been on Biological drugs yet but have suffered psoriasis all my adult life, but have got by on potions and lotions and uv for years, but my latest treatment has kept me clear for five years, I hope you get that kind of success from the Stelara...which from the experiences I've read about on here it should work well for you

As has been said by others we are all friendly here, and welcome new members input to the site, so feel free to dive in and maybe join us for a virtual drink in off topic [Group Specific]

Good luck Thumb
Jim
